Well, once it come out in uncut, subtitled DVDs, yes. As long as anime
companies are gonna keep playing the, "Let's release it dub-only first!'
crap, fansubbers are gonna keep working on the series.

You mean that's still going on? Even though I don't watch the sub if I
can help it, this totally sucks.

I thought that Kitty was part of Media Blasters, and I know that Anime
18 is a CPM brand.

I didn't realize that there were that many, but this seems to be a
world-wide list as they list Madman and ADV UK in there as well.

Yep. I know _One Piece_ is coming out dub-only first, and I think _Naruto_
is, as well.
Ya know, I can kinda see having dub only DVDs, so parents can get it for
the kiddies without the stuff they edited out of the series (the blood and
nudity and stuff), but would it be so much to ask for them to start
releasing the subbed version at the same time?

> Even though I don't watch the sub if I can help it, this totally sucks.

I'll watch both if the dub is good. Depends on my mood and stuff, you
know? Sometimes I wanna watch anime without having to read it, and if the
dub is good enough, I'll do that.

If you include CPM among the big boys, then you should probably
count Media Blasters among them too. They are releasing more
titles than CPM are.

>>> Animego
>>> Multimedia 2000

Were Multimedia 2000 the ones that released Bubblegum Crisis on
DVD back in 1998? That was on a sublicense from Animeigo, and as
far as I know that has been their only anime release.

I assume you mean "The Right Stuf International"?

Image Entertainment sublicensed a number of titles from CPM in
the early DVD days. CPM has re-released several of those titles
themselves after the sublicense expired. I believe Hyper Police
is Image's only "own" anime title. They have published lots of
other movies, though, both on laserdisc and on DVD.

>> Disney/Buena Vista (All those Ghibli films.)
>> AnimeNation (Risky/Safety, Hare+Guu, Miami Guns)

Miramax is part of the Disney/Buena Vista conglomerat. It's
their "art film" branch. (They also own Touchstone Pictures.)

Correct. And Critical Mass is part of The Right Stuf.

Some other studios worth mentioning are Viz, Tokyopop, Manga
Entertainment (not to be confused with US Manga Corps, which
are part of CPM) and Synch-Point.

They were a major sublicensor for lots of stuff (much more than just
anime) on laserdisc. They published so many laserdiscs, sometimes it
seemed like their name was on half of all laserdisc titles. As someone
else has said, they published much of CPM's library on laserdisc, and a
lot on DVD as well.

> Rhino (Transformers The Movie)

They produce a lot of novelty records. Like the Dr. Demento collection
CD sets, for instance.

Article:

And there's an even bigger problem. Run a Google search for "Naruto,"
and the top hits won't be Toonami. You'll get sites like NarutoFan that
serve up the latest episodes of the show, recorded straight from Japanese TV.

Within days, fans subtitle the shows on their own and release them over
peer-to-peer networks like BitTorrent.

One answer to both of these problems, said ADV spokesman Chris Oarr,
is to invest upfront in new anime shows rather than waiting around
until a series hits it big in Japan. "ADV has been an equity partner
and a co-producer of anime series for over 10 years. It's now commonplace
to see us in the credits for shows like Samurai Gun."

Oarr also believes that sewing up U.S. rights early on helps prevent piracy.
"They know that we will go after people who are ripping us off. You can't
find a single torrent of Samurai Gun out there."

You know, I think it's wonderful that ADV is in trouble. Spitting on fans
like that cannot be good. When the official spokesman of ADV puts down
fansubs in such terms, it only shows that they have no understanding how
fansubs benefit their own bottom line. I bought Azumanga DVDs *BECAUSE*
I had all the fansubs. But that may be my last contribution to ADVs
coffer if they continue policies articluated by Chris Oarr. I will be
getting Naruto DVDs and I will not see their "Samurai Gun".
Rot in hell, ADV.

Does to be released by ShoPro/Viz make a difference?

It seemed like I read about it somewhere. But I could be wrong, hence the

I don't think so. Viz is releasing _Zatch Bell!_, too, and I see that the
DVDs are hybrid.

U.S. Manga Corps is a CPM subdivision, and probably the source of

Their first big title was Rorouni Kenshin, but a lot of new
acquisitions have put them back on the spotlight as up-and-comers . .

Hai! With two cover overlays one of Speed Racer and one of Cutey Honey.
I believe there is also a volume 2 of the best of anime, but I am not 100%
sure
of that.
