I don't usually bail out on an anime series in the middle, but this evening
I decided to drop "Rideback" after watching the first few minutes of episode
7 and then skimming through the rest of it. Rideback has evolved into a
serious sci-fi melodrama, and I don't care for it any longer.

I find the bad guys to be too cliched and one-dimensional. I find the
storyline trite and boring. My suspension-of-disbelief was lost thanks to
the Evil World Government plot-driver. Although my suspension-of-disbelief
probably would have stayed in place if the GGP was limited to functioning as
a dictatorship in Japan only, the heavy-handedness of the direction and
writing likely would have still bored me.

Fundamentally, the writers and director didn't give me any reasons to care
about the characters or their situations, so I can't be bothered to spend
any more of my time following this series. In a way this is too bad, because
the animators created some striking visuals based upon Rin and her Fuego.
But visuals alone can't keep me watching a film if I don't care about the
characters and the story.

I totally agree. Love the art, hate the story. I really wish this had been
a series about Rin and her quest to become the rideback racing champion.
The evil world government / terrorist story is a big yawner.

Thanks for all the reviews, they're really spot-on. You should have a
website or a blog.
