"Exaella" is a dark deep future scifi anime from Russia, produced with
Japanese help. The world there is similar to the one in "Ergo Proxy".
Story:
The planet "Earth" is uninhabitable for humans. Therefore, people are
housed as sleepers in isolated stations, which are run automatically
by AIs. An accident happens, which is triggered by an event from
space. Some of the isolated stations get damaged and the system
reacts.
Who has seen "Ergo Proxy" will remember the problem, the isolated
stations in "Exaella" in question are faced with.
The anime is well done, but it needs some time to get used to it. The
viewer is switched to and fro between the position of the outside
observer and the angle of the AI system. The surrounding is typical
cyberpunk: huge machinery, grid on the floor, stamp machines, robots
on man-hunt, and so on.
The 6ep OVA is available on two region free DVDs. The spoken language
is Japanese, but besides the subs there are also English and Russian
audio tracks. But it is not a dub, as we know it. It's a classical
East-European dub, and that means, one and only one person (here a
female) is translating the spoken Japanese on the fly.
Well, it is one of the rare more serious deep future recent animes,
which are available. It can be bought at the online shop on the
webside of the creator. Search for "Exaella", and you will find it.
The shop is reliable, fast and honest.
I am actually listening to the OST of "Exaella".
