Here's a poll since I'm rather curious about your opinions, as I haven't
seen a bunch of shows(like Kaitou St. Tail, Pastel Yumi, Creamy Mami, etc)

Rank all the mahou shoujo shows from shoujo anime[so this eliminates any
confusion... no shounen anime even though Mamono Hunter Yohko is a
"magical girl", no Lina Inverse even though she is a "magical girl] you've
seen from best to worst. Oh, and no parodies either(like Makenai Makendo
or Pretty Sami)

My Picks:

1. Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon
200 eps, 3 movies, few specials. It's just a great show overall.

2. Nurse Angel Ririka SOS
The best non-orchestral BGMs, great songs, and great plotline. beginning
and ending are a bit on the filler-side though. Monster-of-the-day show
for those parts, but all good stuff in the middle eps.

3. Mahou no Stage Fancy Lala
Great characterization, great art, and songs are growing on me. Only
reason it's stuck at #3 is because I haven't seen a whole lot of it(about
5 eps). A drama show more than anything else.

4. Hime-chan no Ribbon
Good characters, good music, and storyline focuses on Himeko's life. Her
magical ribbon creates some interesting situations though. Another drama
show with a magical element.

5. Akazukin Cha-Cha
It's kinda a dumb show, but it's actually not that bad. Kids will
probably like it while an older audience will have to get used to it.
It's occasionally funny, but while the beginning eps are all
monster-of-the-day, it has some potential

6. Card Captor Sakura
Best animation of all magical girl shows I've seen. It's really great
and fluid too. Nice art and it's got the cute factor. It's also pretty
funny sometimes. But, since IMHO, it's extremely overrated, it deserves
this low ranking.. It's really.. nothing special. The Clow Cards are a
cool concept, but in the end, it's just another monster-of-the-day show
with little character development.

7. Wedding Peach
WP takes last on my list and although I hear it gets pretty good, the
first 8 eps are pretty... average. I like that art and character designs.
The songs are great(furil rules!). But as far as actual anime content, it
has little to offer. It's like Power Rangers. Their jokes aren't funny,
yet you laugh because the show's stupid. And the one thing that grates on
me is that it's corny-as-heck. My opinion will probably change if I see
more, but as it is, it's the bottom of my mahou shoujo list.

Still, even though WP is at the bottom, it's not a "bad show" at all.
It's just not a "good" one.

Long Live Mahou Shoujo!

1)Sailor Moon
My first anime love. great chracter devolpment and plot.
2)Pelsia. High enegy and pleasent to wacth even without a translation. I
escepcally like Pelsia! she's so hyper and I like the songs too!
3)Nurse Angel Rirka
Great story,great animation,great music
4)Wedding Peach very funny,I liked Momoko and Yuri and it's so beatiful at
times(3 episodes out of the 1st 4 have teary eye scenes...at least for me)
5)Creamy Mami. a classic. I like Yuu and Toshio and it's just a delight to
wacth.
6)Pastel Yumi. very creative and funny. Any show with flower elves that look
like cats *has* to be cool
7)Sweet Mint. a cute show. Entertaining in a gentle way.
8)Minky Momo('92) a bit too pink for me. very cheerful.

1. Fancy Lala. I've only seen two episodes, but when I did something
struck me about the art, I dunno. I just like it.

2. Card Captor Sakura. It's the only other one I've seen. I'm anime
deprived.

1. Kiki's Delivery Service

Without a doubt IMHO, THE magical girl show to beat all magical shows. OK,
it's a movie but still, there are no monsters to be beaten, no endless
stream of minions serving the evil overlord... just a girl with magical
powers trying to cope in the real world.

2. Minky Momo OAVs

Another great series... awesome animation, great effects and an odd take
on Alice in Wonderland for the first OAV. Neat stuff.

I....I can't rank them! I like them all too much! Magical Emi, Creamy Mami (the
movies are great, esp. the one where she goes up against Minky Momo), Fancy
Lala, Himitsu no Akko-chan, Magical Sally, Pelcia, Sweet Mint, Nurse Angel
Lilica, Akazukin Cha-cha, Cyber Team in Akihabara, Minky Momo, Wedding Peach
(one fights with a magic lipstick! How cool is that?!), even the revamp- Cutey
Honey-F.

Hmm, about the only one I'm not crazy about is Sailor Moon. I mean, I like it
okay, but it just doesn't really "do it" for me.... Mostly I find I like the
bad guys more than the Sailor Senshi....

Oh, and the reason Fancy Lala's character designs probably catch the eye so
well is because they are by the talented Akemi Takada, designer for such shows
as Creamy Mami, Magical Emi, Patlabor, Orange Road and many more!

1. Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon
Besides the fact that it's my favourite anime overall, I think
it has very interesting and intriguing characters, a well developed
plot, and excellent music.

2. CardCaptor Sakura
Kawaii, kawaii, kawaii. I've actually read more the manga than
I've seen of the anime, so I know there is a lot of character development,
interesting character relationships (CLAMP daisuki!), and an exciting
plot.

3. Hime-chan no Ribon
I love the fact that this is basically Himeko's real life with
a little mahou shoujo influence. ^_^ There's no big bad guy person,
just the conflicts between those she interacts with. Tanoshii raabu
sutori da yo!

4. Kaitou St. Tail
The premise of this one is really interesting. I find it a
little odd that it's based around Catholicism, but that just makes it
all the more different. The last few episodes of this series are my
favourite (ep 43 is perfect ^_^). This show also has my all time
favourite song "Yumemiru Melody."

5. Ai Tenshi Densetsu Wedding Peach
Yes, FURIL does rock. ^_^ Koi dakara Virgin Love!! Sure, it's
repetitive, especially in the beginning, but once you get into the
backstory and discover the true plot, it gets really interesting. Plus
Hinagiku kicks ass. Okay, Scarlet kicks ass, too. ^_-

6. Nurse Angel Ririka SOS
I like Ririka a lot, just not as much as the others. I started
to get really into it around the mid twenties. The music is excellent.

7. Magic Knight Rayearth
Some people don't consider it mahou shoujo, but I do. You've
got transformations, magical mascots, magical worlds, magic powers,
etc. ^_^ It's last because I find it drags on. Especially the second
season... Kami, I think they could squash 4 episodes together. I
enjoy the manga a lot more, which obvioiusly doesn't have as much of a
problem.

Shows I haven't seen enough of/haven't seen yet but are coming. ^_^

Tonde Buurin - I've only seen episode 7, and it was in Cantonese. O_o
Magical Angel Sweet Mint - I have about four episodes, but I've only
seen half of one.
Majoko Megu-chan - I have about five eps, but haven't seen any of it.
Majoko Club Special #1 (with Creamy Mami, Magical Angel Pelsia, and
Magical Emi) - I've only seen about five minutes.
Majoko Club Special #2 (with those three plus Pastel Yumi) - haven't
seen any of it.
Mahou no Stage Fancy Lala - I have 1-8 coming. It looks interesting.
Akazukin ChaCha - I have 1-12 coming. Looks pretty good.

Since when was Kiki a mahou shoujo? Sure, she's a girl, and she's got magic.
But still, I wouldn't call it mahou shoujo.

I've got several episodes of the (rather good) Philippine English dub on tape.
The OP/EDs are still in Japanese, though the _names_ aren't (you'd think
they're Americans who live in Japan.)

Actually the reason I didn't want parodies included was because I wanted
to see people rank mahou shoujo for their mahou shoujo qualities.

Don't get me wrong, I actually like Mahou Shoujo Pretty Sami and it's fun
to make fun of mahou shoujo(like Card Captor Sakura and Akazukin Cha-cha
do to some extent), but if someone ranks pretty sami in there just because
it's parodying the magical girl genre, then it's not going along with my
original intent with the poll- that being seeing what magical girl shows
people like and what makes certain ones better than others.

Yea,this genre gets too little attention and there are some very good titles
being ignored(Pelsia,Creamy Mami) in lew of something like...uh..Luna Varga or
something >_<

Well, seeing as its target audience was women it IMHO meets all the
requirements. Magic, involves a girl, is intended primarily for the
ladies, not a parody... OK, it's a movie but some people mentionend OAVs
so that should be all right.

Eek. I honestly haven't seen enough magical girl stuff to even come up
with 5 in a list, but I was very fond of Kaitou St. Tail, and there's a
*very* funny show out there called "Butt Attack Punisher Girl Gotaman"
that probably qualifies...(and I *wish* I had more of it!).

3. Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne
4. Card Captor Sakura
5. Super Doll Licca-chan
6. Hime-chan no Ribbon
7. Mahou no Tenshi Creamy Mami
8. Akazukin Chacha
9. Tonde Buurin

There are more, but I won't list them.
