Subject: Ghost in the Shell SAC edit: What the hell?
The original Japanese airing of Ghost in the Shell SAC episode 16
features the Tackikomas singing the Holocaust song "Donna Donna" (also
featured in Utena episode 16, oddly enough) while transfered out of
section 9.

This is particularly poignant because the Tachikomas are going to be
dissected at the laboratory.  Batou asks them if they understand what
the song means, and the Tackikomas niavely give the literal
interpretation as Batou silently watches them leave.  This is one of
the cleverest moments in the series.

The official r1 release has the holocaust song changed to something
else entirely, some bland Japanese thing.  Anyone know the the deal is
with this change?  (I'd guess it was made on the Japanese side of
things).

Looks like the fansub of this episode is the way to go.  Too bad it
won't be preserved like the DVD version.

I didn't catch the lyrics exactly, but my sister did. She says it's a song
about prostitution.

Some girl about red shoes.
Didn't we just discuss this 3 weeks ago?

<http://groups.google.ca/groups?hl=en&lr=&selm=36la4sF53te9mU1%40indiv...>

  The lyrics of the song are:
  Akaikutsu haiteta onna no ko [the girl who wore red shoes]
  Ijin-san ni tsurerarete icchata [a foreigner took her and gone]

  It's a sad song.

Laters. =)

Hmmm I wonder why they changed that, the original versions seems
much more sad and ironic.  A far better send off to the awesome
Tachikoma's IMO.
