That's an utterly terribly written article, and inaccurate too (I hate the
DoA series, but it hardly qualifies as "plotless"). Also, the Silent Hill
movie wasn't confusing, just terribly written. It was in fact very
straightforward, which I'd count as a problem with it given the Silent Hill
games aren't (at least the first few ones that everyone likes).

Also, only bad people dislike the Street Fighter movie.

It's all not very anime-related, though. ;p

And what, no mention of Mortal Kombat Annihilation?

Heh, I remember back around 1996 or so buying a copy of Super Street
Fighter 2 for the PC (DOS) at the old Electronics Boutique. It had
a free 6-button pad (25-pin game port) and a free copy of the
SF movie (VHS of course). Never even got around to watching the movie
to be honest, but it sounded too cheesy.

And I even watched KISS Meets The Phantom of the Park and
survived ^_^.

Fatal Fury: TMP was pretty good, especially taken with the prior two OVAs.

While SFII:The Movie wasn't terribly complex, it was good for what it
was, and had what was possibly the BEST final fight scene EVER for such
a movie, unlike Fatal Fury which fell down in that department.

I don't know, I kinda thought the first (was there more than one?)
Mortal Kombat movie wasn't too bad. And Doom worked out pretty well I
think. I can't think of any others, the FFVII Advent Children, maybe
but that's CGI right or are we including them, I've not proven good at
following the thread of some of the posts lately. ^__^

As long as you went into FF:AC knowing that it was pure fanwank, it
was pretty entertaining. If you weren't familiar with FFVII, then you
had no idea what was going on but the CGI was fantastic and the fight
scenes were awesome to watch. So, objectively, it wasn't a good movie
but it was an entertaining movie.

Eh. it did its job reasonably well, and was more fun to watch than the
second and third Matrix movies (and likely the first, as well). Viewed in
the proper constraints, I'd say it was a good movie.

Bottom row.

It also spawned an awful game. A game based on a movie based on a game... why?

So they could make another movie based on the game based on the movie based
on the game! ;-)

He's talking about the animated SF movie, I believe. And while that did
spawn a game that might have been awful (was Japan-only), I think you're
talking about the Jean Claude Van Damme one.

used game shops.)

Oh, indeed. I did SEE the other one, but it would be heading a WORST,
not best list.

My bad. I saw the Worst Video Game Movies topic, figured it was an
offshoot of the Best thread...

As for my two cents, the Super Mario Brothers movie would be tied with
the 2nd & 3rd Resident Evil movies for worst Video Game movies. Each
one has so little to do with the source games it's pitiful.

That's how Hollyweird makes movies - it's called "based on", which
translates as either:
"we couldn't be bother to actually do it properly, so we made lots of
idiotic changes"
or "we know better than the original creator, so made lots of idiotic
changes".

:-(

Wrong wrong wrong! But we already had this discussion. ;p

???

The 2nd Resident Evil movie had more to do with the source games than the
first one did. Hell, it was basically a retelling of Resident Evil III,
shoehorning in Alice and a few other new characters alongside Jill and the
mercs. I'm not saying it was good (though I thought it had some redeeming
qualities - more than the third game did, anyway), but it certainly was a
far more immediately recognisable retelling of the source material than
either of the other movies.

I guess my worst is... uh, maybe Silent Hill. It wasn't "objectively" the
worst (it had some wonderful cinematography), but it's the only one that's
been almost physically painful to watch due to the awful script.

Didn't some webcomic point out that actually Silent Hill was perfect ?
It was the only movie that, when watched, gave you the same feelings of
horror and despair as the protagonist was supposed to be suffering. Even
when you'd finished watching it, there was still the horrifying fact that
it still existed out there somewhere....
