Actually there was that girl who dressed up as a cat
at her high school. And the anime real dolls have been
around for awhile, probably about 5-10 years. The most
famous one looks a lot like Rei.
Here is the girl:

A: You're married to a woman you've described in no less than glowing

That sounds like a safety hazard waiting to happen. Although I
imagine if you really needed them warm you could dunk one in a tub of
hot water until it was something other than a corpse. What these things
really need is a speaker in the head or something.

Ah, realdoll.com. A recent "Ghost in the Shell:SAC" ep dealt with a man

I believe she was called Jenny. However the incorporation of
electronic technology into Realdolls will be the next step. We have
some ways to go before we have actual sexaroids running around but the
technology already exists to give these things some ability to
effectively simulate human sexual responses. I expect the cost factor
is preventing the actual implementation. The things cost $6000.00 as
it is. A computerized model could easily go over $10,000.00. For
that kind of money just hire hookers.
The question for me is that if technology does develop sexual
surrogates on the order of persacons or the sexaroid boomers will
human sexual relationships survive? CLAMP didn't seem to think so in
Chobits.
I suspect that necrophiles are the demographic that Real Dolls would most
appeal to.

My bad. I knew she was Jeri but I was thinking of Global Robotic
Response Unit XJ-9.
But it's not just about sexual pleasure. If it were, who'd
need anything but their hands? Fantasy, and desire, and
power: THOSE are why people would pay thousands of dollars
for a Realdoll.
And if they would pay that much for inanimate plastic, Lord
knows what people would pay for anime 'realdolls' like
Ifurita, Chii, Nuku-Nuku, etc, etc.

The movie "Innocence", as well as the old A.D. Police series,
worked along these lines too. I think Innocence really upped the ante
with Halloway's lines: "Pleasure dolls are not utilitarian, but they are
the most complicated. They have to act human; they have to act like
they want. And the one thing they want most of all is to not be
discarded."

Just don't spill your drink. Alcohol dissolves latex, I seem to recall.
Would chlorine be bad for it too, or are we thinking too much about
this?
Yay! I get to tackle two subjects in one post. For those of you
willing to look at more mainstream Real Dolls, feast your eyes on
I-Doloid, a magazine for Japanese "realistic dolls and robots"
collectors:
http://www.coremagazine.co.jp/idoloid/index2.html
Front matter SFW. Interior probably not. Sorry, Ethan, no nekodoloids
in sight yet, and some of the interior pictures are, um, disturbing. I
love the fact that in the text they have to reminder the reader that
"ecchi = hentai".
I think the one thing that scares me the most is the notion that no
technology that people are willing to pay for doesn't improve over
time. It's quite obvious, looking through the sets, that the faces on
the 2004 models are much, *much* more human than the 2002 models.
Elf
[Anatomically correct sex doll with pink hair, huge breasts and huger
eyes.]
This should probably disturb me, or at least surprise me, but nothing
humans do for sex surprises me any more. Nothing humans do, period,
does. I now reserve my capacity for surprise for unexpected uses of
LEGO elements in models. ("That robot's fingers are BANANAS, woo!
And her pigtails are CROISSANTS!")
I'm paging through the site, but in a detached, clinical mood.
(Because I'm really an alien observing Earth by hyperwave from Sol's
Oort cloud. Yeah.) "That's interesting. I wonder how they did that?
Or emulate this?" Bio-sim engineering, as it were. The techniques
are applicable to androids that *don't* have sexual functions, of
course; but so many technologies *start* in the sexual realm (film,
VCR, internet), because humans will pay a premium for sex.
(Building a *walking* android, instead of a posable manikin, is still
an ongoing problem in robotics. Earth still doesn't have power
supplies of adequate size and longevity, but some groups are getting
close. A hot-gas mini-turbine might work for a military exoskeleton,
but probably isn't suitable for in-home use. :)
There's a panel at the upcoming Philcon SF convention (the world's
first SF con, since 1937, www.philcon.org) on "Sex toys of the
future." This would qualify, although miniature commodity
wormhole-pairs (see "syntei") are more versatile.
People complain about the "dead eyes" in "The Polar Express" (the
current movie), but these dolls are worse. Closing eyelids (actuated
by toggles on the neck) are, the site states, a premium option. It'd
be cheaper to just blindfold the doll -- but that's a whole 'nother
kind of kinky. Are kinks orthogonal?

Actually in Japanese usage hentai generally refers to sexual perversion

not as bad as hentai. Although they have both basically become
interchangeable, because people can't stick to the defined ways.

Kyle, you need to see Rozen Maiden episode 9, just for the preview for
episode 10. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find the preview for
episode 10 on the web anywhere, but there is one little bit in it that sort

it looks like the "dolicon" aspect of Shiku will finally get some air time.
<L> The funniest thing about Shinku in that scene is that you can still see
