Well, my hubris once again got the better of me, and now I'll be
showing two paintings at Katsucon starting tomorrow.

Yes, laughter is permissible, after all, how will I know? ^====^

You employ the same superficial tactics as my wife - "I must look terrible
in this" - as she fishes for complements. Even though your tactics are
superficial, your art is not. I like it. I especially like your
interpretation of "Mama Hild and little baby Urd".

By reading the responses in here, of course - since when was anyone shy?

'sides, you're now giving me two reasons to regret not being able to make
the 'con instead of one. You should expect no mercy.

They'll do well. Good going, and enjoy yourself there!

Thanks, this was one of the hardest paintings I've ever done,
and now it feels like I can at least relax. Can't tell you
how hard it is to resist the urge to pick up a brush to "fix
just one more little problem"...

Plus, I can enjoy myself more because I finally have a new
contract, after 5 months of idleness and sloth!

It looks lovely. So what do you have in mind for your next subject?

Congrats. So you won't be doing Bondage Queen
Maris from Quest 47?

I think my painting time will be limited to weekends, once I start
back to work, but I hope to finish something by Anime Mid-Atlantic.
Maybe one, hopefully two or three.

Think: Hoi-Hoi-san as "Two-Hand" Reby from "Black Lagoon"...

Thanks, I've been thinking about this picture of Reby, from the

I'm also seriously thinking of painting Hoi-Hoi-san in exactly
the same pose and outfit, including tatoo...

Not sure it'll have the same effect, though. ^====^

Yes, you're technically "just" copying pre-made art, but still . .

Heh, it means I've become more skillful at hiding the mistakes!

If a picture interests me, I don't look for the flaws. If I look for
flaws, it's because something didn't grab me when I first looked at the
piece of art. If I were you, I'd stop worrying about the flaws. Remind
yourself what inspired you to do the pictures and I think you'll find that
you did a good job presenting them.

I'm looking forward to your next. BTW, if you remember, I suggested a
mother-daughter confrontation to contrast the daughter in mother's arms.
The diametrically opposed themes will accentuate the aspects of each
picture. Just my two cents worth.

Well, it's easier said than done, unfortunately, since I tend to be
a bit of a perfectionist as far as painting goes. I did learn a long
time ago that "the 'perfect' is the enemy of 'the good'", due to some
"fixes" that made a couple of paintings worse, so I do know roughly
when to give up.

The Art Show at Katsucon this year was pretty large, there were a lot
more pieces (seemingly) than last year, but for some reason very few
things actually sold. I didn't get a single bid on either of mine,
which was a little disappointing, but not unexpected. Either they
got lost in the crowd, or the subjects were too obscure, or they
just weren't "Naruto" enough to register visually. ^=====^ There
were also quite a few pieces that were prints which the artist were
also selling in Artist's Alley, which might have supressed the bidding
for the other pieces. I was really surprised at the number and the
quality of the other paintings and prints that didn't even get a bid,
some were quite good. I might change my plans a bit, and do a
portrait of Belldandy with a Naruto headband, and call it "Goddess
Jitsu" or something. ^====^

(... I was the sole bid on a very sexy portrait of Matsumoto from
"Bleach", which piece the artist called "Jugs McBoobsalot". That's
my kind of humor... ^=====^ ...)

On a different subject, did you happen to run across Steve Bennett by any
chance? He generally spends a fair amount of time in the art area.

No, I didn't, although he had a panel on cel painting, which I didn't
attend because of the schedule. He was probably in Artist's Alley
though, although I don't recall. Still a bit sleep-deprived, so
memory is hazy...
