Howdy all!

Cartoon Network announced that Casshern Sins & Deadman Wonderland will
be on Toonami starting May 26TH.

Thoughts anyone?

I'll set my DVR and record at least a couple of eps of each, but they're
not favorite kind of show. From what I remember hearing about them, ok
examples of their types, but nothing great.

Anybody else know about these shows?

I found Casshern Sins to be stylishly retro and intriguingly bleak and it
did keep my attention throughout the series.

I found Deadman Wonderland to be painfully dumb, with no style or
originality, and badly cliched so I dropped it quickly.

The two series are essentially a contrast between Art House and Summer
Action films.

I've seen both of these and wouldn't quarrel with Dave's comments. I saw
only two or three episodes of each.

I'm 3/4 of the way through Casshern Sins watching on Netflix. If it
finishes in the same fashion, I will buy the series the next time
RightStuf has it on sale. Definitely stylish and bleak, definitely
philosophical. Not for everybody, but I like it.

Deadman Wonderland had potential, but never delivered on it, just
turning into a mysterious action show with an unbelievable evil
organization. I didn't dislike it as much as Dave (I watched
all of it), but have no interest in ever seeing it again.

I had ABSOLUTELY NO idea that they were reviving Toonami. So this was a complete surprise to me. Are the Tom animations reuses? They don't look new. I noticed they used the Tom 2.0 version, not the most recent version with the funny face. Sometimes they gave a backstory to Tom, like when Tom died and Tom 2.0 took over. They did not do any backstory for this reintroduction though.

As for the actual animes,...well, at least the "BLEACH" filler is over. Isn't it? :-)

DEADMAN WONDERLAND

That's a curious idea for satire. An amusement park that's actually a prison where the punishment is humiliation in front of paying customers. I wonder if the show's creator had a bad experience working as a Tokyo Disneyland intern or something. :-) But I didn't think they did much more than playing up to anime fans in the first ep. Lots of gratuitous violence, a nebbish kid for the hero (same dub voice as Shinji Ikari?), lots of fanservice shots of the loli in the unitard. Nothing really creative though.

CASSHERN SINS

Eh, I had "Pilot Candidate" flashbacks. Interminable scenes of characters just standing around and brooding, with a completely incomprehensible plot. Since I could barely figure out what the plot was about, I couldn't connect with the characters. Instead, because one of the central characters was named "Luna", I kept thinking about "My Little Pony" crossovers instead. :-)

It is very pretty in a depressing sort of way.

You missed the buzz of the Toonami revival on April Fool's Day instead
of their usual showing of The Room?

Here's a few videos from Marzgurl, from her Anime News Editorials about
it, which covers the details.

I thought that was an April Fool's day joke.
