Director ANNO Hideaki (Evangelion etc.) is currently working
for the next Miyazaki/Ghibli anime movie "Kaze tachinu"
[Wind arose] as the *voice actor* of the protagonist
HORIKOSHI Jiro who designed Rei-shiki Kanjou Sentouki
aka Zero-fighter in late 1930's. The movie will show
up in this summer. Check the URL:

The movie is purly a Miyazaki film like Nausicca, Laputa, Totoro
etc. You can find some more info about the film at:

One does wonder about the long term fate of Ghibli, given the mixed
reactions "heir apparent" Goro Miyazaki's efforts have produced. The
lifeblood of the studio really is the elder Miyazaki and his associate
Takahata and, by most accounts, Goro has not really inherited (or
learned) the ability to direct like his father. As a last bastion of
high quality theatrical 2d animation (in a cg saturated era), one can
only hope that Ghibli can weather the eventual retirement of it's
founders.

It is also very nice to see that Takahata has finally returned to
directing after some time away.

"From up on Poppy Hill" wasn't that bad, IMHO. Sure, it was far from
"Spirited Away" or "Nausicaä" or "Only Yesterday", but I thought it was
on a similar level as "Ocean Waves" for example.

Not really.

Cut the guy some slack. "From up on Poppy Hill" was a decent movie, and
just his second work. Personally I didn't find the early works of his
father and Takahata too hot either ("Panda! Go Panda!" or "Heidi, Girl
of the Alps" for instance).

I think Castle Cagliostro was a wonderful film and would certainly put
it up there with Totoro and Kiki, which are my other favorites of
Miyazaki's.

Seconded. Here's hoping for a Region A Blu-ray someday.
