Is there somewhere a temple or shrine, where I can grieve about the
end of one or the other manga, which I like, but ended with some
unfinished business?

Given the number of times this happens in manga, there must be one
someplace...

Yeah, but it's probably incomplete.

I have heard from a couple of places that it is just the end of this arc
with a sequel picking up right at the stopping point.

Part two of a series as Claymore ends abruptly right after Negima!. Manga
creators apparently are terminating their works early over a copyright
treaty that Japanese publisher are pushing. This law, the Trans-Pacific
Partnership (TPP), would grant publishers like Kodansha "equal" copyright
to the works they publish.

Kodansha claims that this would streamline continuing publication such as
electronic editions. New rights would not need to be negotiated with the
creators. Kodansha also claims that the law would permit them to pursue
copyright infringers (pirates).

Ken Akamatsu, Negima!'s creator, counters that neither require new
treaties. He further states that the real reasons that Kodansha is behind
this law is a) to cut creators out of the licensing process and b) to shut
down doujinshi sites like PIXIV. Kodansha hate PIXIV and have been
looking for ways to get it shut down. The problem is that Akamatsu, among
others, have granted permission for doujinshi authors to create derivative
works and publish them. If Japan signs the treaty then publishers like
Kodansha will be able to do what they want regardless of the creators'
wishes.

Expect more manga to be terminated early or abruptly as more mangaka
protest this treaty and the behaviour of their publishers.

Ha! Look for publishers to find a way to do all they want
retroactively, on manga that they have published, finished or not. It's
hard to trust companies whose only interest is how to screw more money
out of the turnip (abusing an old saying there, sorry.^_^;).

So, that's the reason behind this.

Well, Kokia has set up her own production group in France to get more
control over her own work.

That doesn't support what you've heard.

And all in the name of "protecting the artists", of course.

I don't know that it's true for Claymore, but it is for Negima!. Akamatsu
has been vocal about the TPP treaty since Japan formally announced
consideration of it:

According to this user on MangaHelpers, it's just a big
misuderstanding due to an editorial mistake. The series is NOT over.
I thought it was plain weird. From Bakuman I learned that Jump doesn't
suddenly cancel a long-running series like Claymore without even
warning the readers. :)

Okay, I'll buy that. Still, there's some speculation that Yagi has been
negotiating a new contract since he's up to the roughly 25 volumes worth
of material stipulated in the current/old one. There is also some
speculation that there will be a title change of some sort. We'll have
to wait and see what happens.
