Well, I got back from Neko last night, and I still had to carry my jaw in a
separate bag. What caused it to hit the floor? Was it the jiggly girl with
"Insert $$ Here" and an arrow pointed to her cleavage? No, but that did
send my mind in directions I didn't need it to go. It wasn't the guy
walking around in nothing but underwear (shudder). It wasn't even the fact
that several guys were being lead around by leashes (double shudder).

No, it was the prices being thrown around in the art auction. Don't know
about the rest of y'all, but I'm not accustomed to seeing pieces go for an
average of fifty bucks. Has the market for fanart shifted, or is this just
a fluke?

I skipped Nekocon this year, so I don't know what happened
with this auction. But at con art auctions I've been to in the
past, sometimes bidding fever strikes. Just depends on the art
and how much buyers want each piece. If it's a charity piece,
bidding often goes higher. If it's something from a japanese
guest, bidding usually skyrockets. A good auctioneer can also
help by building enthusiasm. The reverse is also true. A lousy
auctioneer can kill it. (I've seen both.)

Since you were there, what was it like? Was there a lot of
great artwork or were people just bidding high on everything?
