The original DN Angel releases had quite a bit of extra content on them.
Can anyone tell me if the last release was one of the ADV strip packs?

Regards,

Bobby

I guess this is where I come in. According to the Mania subsite formerly
known as Anime on DVD, the 2005 Thinpak set is a stripbox:
http://www.mania.com/dnangel-complete-collection-thinpak_article_77774.html
...but the 2007 set apparently has all the extras:
http://www.mania.com/dnangel-complete-collection-thinpak_article_80460.html

If anyone here has that second collection, could you please confirm that
for us?

Watson
Waiting for more ADV series to have the extras restored.

Very very interesting. Since there is still alot of old ADV stuff out
there, do you know how to tell them apart?

Usually the original number of discs is returned to the set (i.e. six
discs in Azumanga Daioh ISO five), but not always; the current Chrono
Crusade set is five discs ISO seven, but apparently includes all the
extras from the original discs. Probably the easiest way is ADV
actually listing all the extras on the outside of the package, on a
bit of paper under the shrinkwrap; if it's a stripbox, it doesn't list
any. They also seem to have stopped making Thinpak sets and are now
releasing collections in multi-cases. Some of these don't have the
extras restored, though (mutter, grumble), but some do.

Dave,

I have the Chrono Crusade 7 disc box set, and ADV did list on the back
cover what the extras were for each disc, but a couple of things may
still be missing in the 5 disc sets though, one would be the cover art
for the two missing volumes which were reversible also, and inside each
DVD box was a single sheet, with double sided printing that had a third
cover art on one side, and a list of the episodes and extras for each
disc, which might or might not be included with the shorter disc set.
Anyone got the 5 disc set who can confirm or deny the info? I have a
couple of other complete set, but don't know if thinpaks or short sets
have been release. Daphne in the Brilliant Blue, Witchblade, Blue Seed,
Divergence Eve/Misaki Chronicles, and Red Garden, though Red Garden
never saw a complete DVD individual release, as ADV dropped the
ball/went out of business or whatever, I got volumes 1-4, but 5 was
withdrawn by the publisher, and 6 was never done, I got them by getting
the 2nd half of the season in a combo box.

So, anyone got info?? ^__^;

Well, things like that are frequently missing from collections, so those
don't bother me as much as when they're left out as it does when discs are
stripped. Is it the Holiday Edition of CC that you have?

Sentai Filmworks license-rescued this and have re-released it as two 2-disc
sets. I don't know the extras situation.

> Witchblade,

Re-released with the series boiled down to four discs, plus a fifth disc of
extras only. I bought the originals in a Right Stuf sale bundle, and later
got the box with vol. 1 and the soundtrack CD, both nice and cheap (and
sold off the extra Vol. 1 for a good price).

> Blue Seed,

Repackaged several times, with the most recent versions including the OVAs
disc, and never stripped. This was probably due to a grandfather clause of
sorts, since it's one of former-ADV's older titles which was originally
collected in a multi-alpha case before Thinpak cases even existed.

> Divergence Eve/Misaki Chronicles,

Released only as Thinpakked stripboxes by ADV (first the separate series,
and then both in one box as the Seraphim Collection). Bastards. Well,
thank Belldandy I managed to get all the singles cheap, with the cheapest
being Misaki Chronicles Vol. 3, still sealed, for $2 at Anime North 2009.

I thought that Funimation was supposed to release their own singles of 5 &
6 for those who picked up all the ADV singles, plus ones for their other
almost-finished series, like Pumpkin Scissors and Welcome to the NHK. Go
to Right Stuf...they have 241 copies of Vol. 5 by Sentai, and 46 copies of
Vol. 6 by Funi, both cheap. There you go. BTW, couldn't find NHK 6 there,
but did find Funi's Scissors 6.

The interwebs. I have some, too (a little more now, actually), and am
willing to share it. Yr welcome.

Happy new year, y'all.

Don't Know if I have the holiday collection or not, since I bought the
collection box with whatever volume it came with, and got the others
mostly form Rightstuf IIRC. Volume 3 has the extra cover picture (not
the reversable one) with Chrono dressed in a reaindeer outfit, Aszmaria
in a tipical red girls costume with white fur trimming, and a Rosetta
hand puppet on her right hand, aslo in red and white costume. Is that
an indication of the Holiday collection? Probably not sob. And yer
right about Red Garden, if I scrape up about 15 buck plus shipping I can
get the volumes 5 & 6. Woo Hoo!

In other words, you bought all the original singles, including Vol. 1 with
an artbox box to hold them all. You don't have one of the collections per
se.

As I said, it isn't. The Holiday Collection (2009) is the original seven
discs in one multiple case with the piece of artwork you're describing as
the front cover. This is the one I want (plus HQ scans of the original
covers, including the reversables):
http://www.rightstuf.com/cgi-bin/catalogmgr/Bm0EtCz8ZC=Zwa8UM9/browse/item/81579/4/0/0
http://preview.tinyurl.com/ccholidayed

Here's the stripbox which was originally released (2005):
http://www.rightstuf.com/cgi-bin/catalogmgr/Bm0EtCz8ZC=Zwa8UM9/browse/item/67732/4/0/0
http://tinyurl.com/ccstripbox

And the boildown box they released in 2009, with all the eps and extras on
five discs. An archived thread from the Mania forums...
http://www.mania.com/aodvb/archive/index.php/t-90327.html
...shows that this verson is in a STACKpac, with four discs of eps and one
of extras, which now has me very leery:

{SNIP}

Ya know. it's strange that a retailer like Rightstuf would have 3
separate [Complete] collections listed, thinpak - $67.49; Holiday
Edition - $ 29.95; & the 'Stackpak" - $44.99. Which do you think I
would order? Right, the Holiday edition saving $20-$40. Oh well, guess
ya gotta puch what they give ya and pay for it plus make a few bucks.
