Yes, I had heard about how Pizza Hut had been a huge sponsor of
Code Geass, and got big product placement in episodes, placement that
was missing in the AS airing. Obivous question: why? Is Pizza Hut's
sponsorship limited to Japan? Maybe it has something to do with the
US's stringent advertising laws? AS just afraid of how Pizza Hut
might react? Anyone who might know why C2's love for Stuffed Crust
was curtailed is free to answer . . .

Did they edit out the huggable wad of cheese? Or how C2 was
always filling out the card to send in to get "Cheese-kun?"
And I'm reasonably certain it was the licensing company that
did the edits, not Adult Swim, because Pizza Hut wasn't paying
anyone for the product placement, and it may have been done by
the Japanese producers before they made their DVD version.

Apparently the logos are cut out of the R1 (pieces of shit in the
shape and appearance of) DVDs as well. Could anyone please confirm
this?
Pizza Hut sponsored Kannagi as well, but no one's reported product
placement in the actual series yet. Maybe the Hut people heard enough
of the laughter about C. "Pizza Butt" C.?

Given what he's heard about the R1 DVDs, he's glad that he's holding
onto the digisubs.
And now I'm glad I've held on to them as well. Geez. OK, beyond the
pizza hut edit (which is frankly enough to get me to ignore the R1 DVD
release, for I am subtle and quick to anger), what else was annoying
about the R1 DVDs?
Maybe they edited out all the Pizza Hut references so that translators
who really should know better could keep on translating "okonomiyaki" as
"Japanese pizza" in other shows...

People on the Anime on DVD/Mania forums were making noise about the R1
DVDs being screwed up. Now that I've scrounged around Mania some
more, it turns out that it's just Vol. 2, and the exchange program is
on place. I stand corrected. Probably still won't buy it. Besides,
I've still got GitS SAC 2nd Gig and Lucky Star to catch up on.

Anime North 2009 and/or pick up a computer that can handle current
digisubs.

Good riddance; we've had enough of commercial product placements.
All our stadiums are already so named! Even our news and movies! ;p

IIRC, Bandai wanted to avoid legal wranglings with Pizza Hut USA
in case PH USA doesn't want its brand associated with the show.
Kinda like Western actors doing commercials in Japan that stays
only in Japan because they don't want those ads shaming their image
in the West (taking their money and run). That's pretty much what
PH Japan intended - its product placement is only for Japanese
consumption (pun intended). If PH Japan ends up shaming PH USA,
that child is gonna get bitch slapped by its parent. ^_^
Laters. =)

Wish stadium names were sensible and permanent again.

If anything product-placement is a bad idea all over, and it'll just
continue to wing it's way into our hearts.
Reading all this makes me wish I had held on to those digisubs too.
If anything, I wish they went back to this logo...

Or how about bringing back this vague character!

Imagine entire TV shows getting sponsored nowadays, like say an
entire "Star Theater" by Texaco!
Amazing how the more things change, the more they stay the same . .

Too bad it's not the 50's again when that was too common.
Don't even get me started on the Peach Bowl.
None the less, I found the product placement in Geass to be cute and midly
amusing. Probably because it's attached to C.C., who I found to be both
sinistar and endearing.
Still, I liked Shirley betters.

Still happens, now and then, especially with specials. The History
Channel series Battle 360 originally ran with only ads by Enterprise
car rental and very few of those, because the head of Enterprise had
been on the carrier Enterprise and really wanted to fund the series. I
think later airings were edited to allow more commercial time, though.

'Invid Fan'
Though in that case, it's technically named after
the guy who owned the company...
Arnold Kim
At least it's a name!
Eh, I think C2 looks a lot sexier then the creepy anorexic female
characters that populate this show. So the pizza fat's doing something useful
in this case. :-)
- Juan F. Lara
It isn't quite working. She's the second skinniest character of that
age bracket on the show (after Nina), not to mention not upfront (but
not DFC, either). Her nickname comes from (A) what's she's seen
eating several times, and (B) the part of her that the "camera" loves
to look at.
Watson
Who does have to add the show to his website, yeah.

Well, judging from all those closeups, she's definitely not skinny in that
region. A pizza butt looks just great for her. :-)
- Juan F. Lara
Do we need to cite the Sir Mix-a-Lot classic?
Lord knows I had my fill of it 17 years ago!
Dude... seventeen years. Let go, man, let go.
I mean, it's not like it's "Achey Breaky Heart." Somehow it seems fitting
that the evil that unleashed that on the world would also be responsible for
Hanna Montanna. Just couldn't leave bad enough alone, could you, Billy?
Shouldn't we rather blame the women who slept with him due to that song?
I thank him for giving Eugene Chadbourne (yes, the avant-garde
musician name-dropped by Sado/Chad in Bleach) the opportunity to
viciously desecrate the song with his Electric Rake in the song "Achy
Rakey Heart."
Watson
Who was the only person in his local anime club to spot and laugh at
the reference in Bleach, and a one-time Rake player at a Chadbourne/
Bob Wiseman show in Ottawa (that was fun).
Oh, the things that just happen over time.
Change "age bracket" to "apparent age bracket," since I don't think
that CC and Nina are in the same actual age bracket. Based on what
she said about Mao (and the visuals), she's at least 30. (And based
on the visuals during her and Zero's mind-f*ck during the first season
finale, she's more like 100+.)
Daryle Walker
Point. Apparent age bracket, then. Still, she wouldn't be one of the
women who'd meet Sir Mix-a-Lot's criteria for the back 40.
Watson
Who can dig that sort of thing himself; he's a Masakazu Katsura fan,
remember?
