It seems that, finally, we're getting The Maxx uncut on DVD. True, it's
a "burn on demand" like Imaginasian did for Orguss, but it's better
then nothing. $15 from Amazon and shipping now!

http://www.amazon.com/The-Maxx-Complete-Series/dp/B002WJHDJI/ref=sr_1_1?
ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1261168037&sr=1-1

Also, it looks like we're also getting Daria as a "complete series"
release sometime in 2010. The music will be replaced with cover bands
where needed, but at this point I can live with that :)

I didn't watch Daria because there was no option to mute the sound and
watch with subtitles. Not because of the music; it was because of the
horrible voice acting of the supporting cast!

Still, it sounds like a good deal. ^_^

The series is about as weird as the original comic so it should please its
fans as well as those who enjoy 'unconventional animation'.

Well, I'll be waiting for the reviews on this one. -_-!

While I love the series, I'm not comfortable with this arrangement.
If the 'original masters' that (they say) they're working with are
otherwise uncut, I could also live with their oversight(s).

Otherwise, I'm going to remain skeptical of the series' treatment,
particularly after the Beavis and Butthead DVD fiasco.

Not to mention what happened with Duckman. 9_9

(And you wonder why people are going *online* for their entertainment)

Maybe if they dubbed it into Japnese!

I'm only glad someone remembered it well enough to get it up on Amazon
at all.

Well, it did get rebroadcast on Teletoon a couple of years ago (although
the episodes were slightly out of order) and it made a couple of
appearances on YouTube so there should be some familiarity/demand.

Still, I see what you mean - some 'underdogs' just don't get the
'feeding' they deserve. (*cough*Korgoth*cough*) -_-!

But, oh the tricks they perform...

Sad? Yes. A 'necessary evil'? No.

This isn't just about organizations like the RIAA being greedy and
heavy-handed - it's about businesses and their animation/DVD divisions
having to backhand certain talentless pencil-pushers in order to
entertain their audience and/or give them their money's worth.

It's why my inner cynic is tapping her foot about the Daria DVDs -
another series, Miami Vice, also used a lot of licensed music throughout
its episodes so it took longer for the box sets to arrive.

But the fans were **SATISFIED** with the arrangement because they
eventually got a complete series for their 'investment'.

Also, if MTV/Viacom (or whoever is making this box set) was willing to
release the episodes (uncut) a season at a time (they said the series
would arrive in 2010 - they didn't say how or which month), they could
add another topping to the proverbial 'sundae' - when Media Blasters
unleashed Invader Zim on an unsuspecting public, they didn't just release
seperate volumes and a 'box set'...they also released the box (complete
with extras) to the fans who bought the volumes.

In other words, if the individual season sets prove popular, the
producers of these DVDs could reward the fans' loyalty with a packed box.

Still, who can truly fathom the 'logic' of a corporate CEO or marketing
department? 9_9

Well, I'll tell you one thing - I am *fed up* with the corporate and
political horseplay. There are a lot of people that need anvils dropped
on their heads and noone is willing/able to make the deliveries.

It is frustrating to think that doing the right thing has become a crime
in a lot of supposedly civilized countries.

Still, it *is* nice when 'karma' bites these board room bucketheads right
where it hurts.

*chuckles at the complaints about Sims3*
*and the 5 class-action lawsuits EA is still dealing with*

Anyway, the holidays are coming up and I'm hoping that they'll be happy
for everyone in and outside this USENET group.

Merry Christmas or whatever.

True. Funny Canada sometimes get things we Americans wished we had
instead (let alone out of order but oh well).

By the way, is there still a TPB out for The Maxx, I never did finish
that one? Annoying to go to eBay as usual but if that's the case...

How we view it.

I wanted to blame MTV more for having to go with the music choices
they did instead of something that wouldn't get them into legal
battles later on.

There's many shows that did that (WKRP anyone?).

As long as it doesn't feel too out-of-place.

Forgot about that show!

Instead of double-dipping.

I got my DVD Saturday, and will give the heads up that while the case
warns that they may only play in dedicated DVD players and not
computers, it works fine on my mac with OS 10.6.

I think it's all collected in 5 or 6 books. Amazon should cary new ones.

It was a case of them being able to use all that music for free while
the show aired on MTV, with the budget not allowing them to actually
get the rights to anything.

WKRP is similar to Daria in that WKRP never payed for the music in the
first place, recording the show on video tape instead of film as a loop
hole (that put them in the same category as a variety show as far as
the contracts went). The difference is that no audio masters exist now
for WKRP, so replacing music leads to horrible editing of the video in
the DVDs. With Daria, they DO have the masters so can treat it like
they were dubbing an anime (replacing music instead of dialog)

Good to hear that.

Thanks. I remember when I was buying those issues at a comic shop
nearby and couldn't find every one.

Not even the usual needledrop classics (Beavis & Butt-Head often did
that).

Probably the saving grace of that show that they can do it without
ruining the dialogue.

I guess they are simple DVD+R's, just like my copy of Dr. Horrible's Sing-
along Blog. Qualitywise it's okay.

One of these days you just know animation will just fade into
