Chu-Bra - First Anime to Avoid for 2010

prior to its official January 2010 broadcast date, so I was able to make it the
last new anime that I tried in 2009.
That was a very poor decision on my part ďż˝ watching Chu-Bra is no way to end the
year.
The first episode of Chu-Bra exemplified everything that is bad about run-of-
the-mill ecchi anime. It was full of cliches. The animation was mediocre. The
voice acting was lifeless. The plot was non-existent. The characters were
stereotypes. The humor was dull, unfunny and predictable. The direction was
uninspired. The music was forgettable.
What was the �catch� for this new series? The �pervert� isn't a boy, or even a
lesbian. The lead character, Nayu, is a first year female middle school student
who has a lingerie fetish and has been wearing adult lingerie, including the
likes of garter belts and silk stockings, since she was a little girl. Nayu is
also totally oblivious to the fact that her attitude is different from that of
the rest of her classmates. Thus Nayu is completely unaware that her fascination
with the undergarments of her female classmates shocks those classmates. So a
number of repetitive and unfunny situations are set up in which Nayu either
fondles other girls or Nayu and/or other girls fall and otherwise find ways to
display their underwear.
But none of the humor works, and the fanservice is no more erotic than a Sears
catalogue. Instead it all comes over as unimaginative and boring.
Avoid this piece-of-shit. If you want entertaining, imaginative, and original
ecchi anime, try something like �Sora no Otoshimono�, or �Kanokon� instead.

I've just watched the first episode and I expected mediocre
entertainment and production values, but was fairly surprised. The story
wasn't original or good, that's clear, but the characters weren't quite
obnoxious like in other comedy series, and I rather liked the comedy
timing, the animation in some scenes (like the girls hanging on to each
other) and especially the music. By the character designs you can tell
that it's based on a manga.

Hmm, I tried the first two episodes of Sora no Otoshimono and it just
wasn't my cup of tea, neither visually nor storytelling-wise.
(Maybe it's the main hero. His voice makes my ears bleed.)

Well, I'm about halfway through Seitokai no Ichizon. Review forthcoming

Hero? Hero? Tomoki is anything but a hero :)
I liked Sora no Otoshimono in a guilty pleasure kind of way.

I've only seen the raw and my japanese isn't skilled enought to follow
most of the speech but I also liked it. The main char was attractive
(ok I've got a thing for meganekko) and she came accross less as a
pervert and more as a fan.

Oh my god. Oh my god.
This wasn't actually that bad. It's wrong ofcourse, but it was funny frum
time to time.

Chu-Bra isn't s'posed to be an ecchi anime - it's s'posed
to be a moe anime. Other than that, I agree with your
assessment. "Cute" girls who find dressing themselves
a challenge don't appeal to me at all, and the adult
supervision isn't any smarter.

I've rewatched this with subs and am now convinved that you have this
wrong. Nayu's interest in underware isn't fetishistic. She is more
concerned with ensuring a good fit and advising her compainions on
what undercloaths are suited to there body types. I didn't see Nayu
getting arosed sexaully by this, it seemed more a mattor of fact
interest to her.
