I didn't have time to keep track of the boxoffice last year.
So I thought instead to sum up the total boxoffices of animated
features for 2011, taken from Brandon Gray's
http://www.boxofficmojo.com/
By "domestic", I believe Brandon refers to U.S. and Canada boxoffices,
with everybody else counted as "foreign".
Title |
Domestic | Foreign
Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance | $133,640 |
$41,028,401
Gnomeo & Juliet | $99,967,670
| $99,967,670
Rango |
$123,477,607 | $121,897,767

$17,600,000
Rio |
$143,619,809 | $341,015,951
Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil | $10,143,779 |
$6,817,189

$16,975 | ???
Kung Fu Panda 2 | $165,249,063 |
$500,443,218

The Smurfs |
$142,614,158 | $419,933,418
Trigun: Badlands Rumble | $62,027
| ???
These movies are still in wide release.
Puss in Boots |
$145,849,365 | $284,966,602
Happy Feet Two | $61,029,276
| $61,500,000
Arthur Christmas |
$46,188,641 | $96,900,000
Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked | $99,779,528 |
$79,974,000
The Adventures of Tintin | $53,107,727
| $260,500,000
In terms of gross dollars, no inflation, KFP2 turned out the big
winner across the world among the wide releases. The much maligned
"Cars 2" actually had the largest domestic boxoffice of these films,
though people still called it a boxoffice disappointment. Disney's
second recent attempt at traditional animation, "Winnie the Pooh",
didn't seem to have much general appeal. A glut of family films
depressed the boxoffices of the fall and winter releases, though "Puss
in Boots" came out of that glut looking pretty good.
I found no information on the box offices of the following
films.:
Yu-Gi-Oh! 3D: Bonds Beyond Time
The Lion of Judah
A Cat in Paris
Redline
Chico & Rita
Wrinkles
Alois Nebel
"Yu-Gi-Oh!" and "The Lion of Judah" opened in a handful of theaters
over a couple of weeks. "A Cat in Paris" and "Chico & Rita" will open
in limited release in April; no boxoffice was listed for their Oscar
qualifying openings. Nothing at all was listed for the other movies.
