My question is whether or not it is necessary to have a substrate of any
kind in such a tank, and whether there is any advantage or disadvantage
to not having any substrate at all. I`ve read that the buffers in
crushed coral or dolomite (etc) are inactive at marine pH levels. I`ve
also heard that crushed coral can promote certain kinds of algae and is
a pain to keep clean. So: would I be a fool to go with no substrate at
all??
If I chose to would it be a problem to add a coral substrate later on?
Thanks for any responses.
