there are two types of UV tubes: Black light & Black Light-Blue glass GEs website says the difference btwn BL and BLB is that BLB have dark glass which traps visible light producing the maximum amount of UV? this doesnt make much sense to me...having an opaque glass will just trap visible light not generate more UV, right? or not? thx... more »

Algae in Filter/Pump Hoses

A couple of months ago I re-plumbed my 55 gallon freshwater aquarium. I added 6 feet of hose to neatly place the filter/pump inlet at the opposite end of tank from the outlet. I have been experimenting with do it yourself micronutrients. I obtained some hydrochloric acid from Lowes and use it to make ferric chloride, zinc chloride, etc. I obtained some sulfuric acid from a battery company and use it to make ferric sulfate, zinc sulfate, etc. And, of course, only a minimum of acid should be used to effectively... more »
