Hey folks,

I am running a mud sump and I wanted to know what spectrum is the best for
marine plants. blues, green, red, ????????????????/ It is in close proximity
to the plants.

Set something like a set of traffic lights up with an X10 controller to
changes from Blue to Green and then to Red every 60 seconds, that should
just about cover all the spectrum.

Seriously, I have a 6400K PC bulb (13W) on my refugium and the caulerpa
seems to love it, so do the copepods (sp?) although I'm not sure they need
any light.

Rich.

hey.....plants have choloroplasts, and so do corals (they contain
zooanthelle-which are phyosynthetic containing symbiotic bacteria) so its
is essentially the same photoreceptors. I guess what i'm trying to say
...they require similar lighting.
difference is -in your reef tank YOU have to like the way it looks...hence
all these blue supplmented bulbs, but if its hidden in your sump...you can
get away w/ unpleasent lighting(to the human eye at least)
A good 6500K bulbs will work great. If your doing a sump thing you could
get by w/ a MV, a PC w/ a 5000K, or one of these freshwater plant specific
bulbs (trichromatics). Just try to get decent wattage over the plants. Eco
systems mud I take it
