I was wondering if anyone could give me a brief rundown on what the costs
are and how I would set up, and whats involved with a marine fish tank. I
already have tropical fish. Is it much different from these?
Please Help!!!

I spent about $8,000 on my 120 gallon reef system. That included water
purification and storage, tank, stand, sump, skimmer, pumps, powerheads, rock,
sand, test kits, apparatus for maintenance, wavemaker, a full secondary
quarrentine setup, and lights. It does not include animals (another $1,000 and
counting), the travel, time, and education. Add another $1,000 for that, give or
take. I have an enviable setup. But I vowed to do it right. I made most of my
purchases mail-order. Had I used the local fish store(s), add another $3,000 at
least to the above price.

Unless you have 4-10 hours a week to fuss with your reef, I would go for a lower
maintenance fish-only system. Just my opinion. Flame away...

I have found that my reef tank requires much less maintanence than
my fish-only setup. Although, I can let the FO setup slack. The reef tank
kinda needs calcium every now and then ;).
