Topic: "The Coral Reefs We Don*t Keep in Aquariums"
Speakers: Eric Borneman and James Wiseman A beautiful slide presentation will be given showing the glory (and
sometimes lack-of-glory) from coral reefs throughout the Caribbean. While these reefs
do not provide our aquarium trade with many corals, they do provide some of
the beautiful gorgonians we keep in our tanks. We will show you the
differences between these reefs and the ones where our corals from the
Indo-Pacific are found. We will also provide some background on these
seriously threatened habitats and the many changes that are occurring,
impacts that threaten the coral reefs in the region, and scenes from the
past and the present. From oil rigs to drop-offs, the fish, corals, and other
marine life of the wider Caribbean are fascinating and beautiful habitats in
our "backyard." Included will be photos of the spectacular Flower Gardens,
one of the healthiest coral reefs anywhere and right off the coast of
Galveston.

  Directions to the Meeting:  
The location is about 1 mile (or less) north of I-10 (the Katy Freeway) right off the Sam Houston Tollway Feeder Road (Beltway 8).  If you are going north on the Tollway, you must exit at the Memorial Exit (before I-10), and drive along the feeder road, going under I-10, and staying on the feeder road.  If you are going either East or West on I-10, exit for the Beltway, NOT the Tollway.  If you are going south on the Sam Houston Tollway, exit the last exit before I-10, and make a u-turn at the freeway, and travel north on the feeder.  After you turn right on Haddington, Aquatic Designs is in the strip center on the left, in the corner.
