He has set up a 130 gal set-up (marine) for live rock and fish. He has designed
and installed a huge protein skimmer that appears to work well. He is now at the
lighting stage and being a do-it-yourselfer has the following question.
He intends to install Metal Halide combined with Actinic (sp?) Fluorescent lighting.
His basic question is can you use "hardware store" type halide ballasts with marine
bulbs? Also is there non-aquarium fluorescent fixtures and ballasts that can be used
with the actinic (sp?) fluorescents?
Having scanned this list, I can tell there are some technically adept hobbyists that
have probably been down this same path. Do you have any help you could offer?
Thanks in advance for any advice or help,
Mike
Please post also to my e-mail address, as I am unable to monitor this list as often
as I would like.

Yes, they use standard electrical hardware.
