I had the same problem with my yellow Tang.  Beautiful at the LFS but a few days later, started getting blotchy, no loss of appetite and no visible signs of illness (other than the blotches).  I medicated the tank with Maracyn-2 and he's been fine ever since.  The live rock will help the tank, but I don't think it will help your Tang.

Does anyone know what will help get a kole tang's color back?  It's color is faded all over and blotchy around the face.  It was fine at the fish store.  It's color changed after bringing him home.  I have had it for a month and a half now.  It is in a 90 gal. with a wet dry, protein skimmer, and uv.  Bi weekly 15% water changes.  Tank mates include purple trigger, 2 fire fish, and 2 star fish.  Tank mates get along fine.  The tang has been eating fine and all water parameters are ok.  The tang has been eating omega one flake food, and spritulina brine shrimp fed twice a day.  I also place green and brown seaweed selects fastened to a shell.  It usually finishes off a 1"x2" piece of seaweed every day.  Any help would be appreciated.  LFS said to put in some live rock, but I don't think it will help.

Actually, the Kole tang is a big eater of diatomous algae, and do really
need the rock surfaces to thrive.
