I have freshwater and saltwater tanks.

I am wondering if there is truly a difference between food specifically
labelled for "marine fish" and food for "tropical fish" (freshwater implied,
I assume).

Right now, I use OSI Marine Flakes and Formula One for dry food along
with frozen brine shrimp, krill, and Prime Reef in the SW tank.

But can I feed my Yellow Tang Tetra's Spirulina flakes that I use in
my FW tanks? And what about freeze-dried bloodworms for clowns or damsels?
All of this food suggests it is for freshwater fish only on the label.

So is this a marketing gimmic? -- placing pictures of a Neon Tetra or
Tiger Barb on the label for freshwater food and a picture of a Clownfish
for marine food? Or is there really a nutritional difference?

Spirulina, IMO, yes for sure. My marine fish love it. But as far as
bloodworms, etc. I think you should try to stay more with what the ocean
offers as protein. Frozen brine, etc.

Not so much a marketing gimmick as it's what marine fish
require. Freshwater fish do not have the same diet as salt water
fish, their is alot more protein and meat within oceanic
food..However I have heard of people giving their freshwater
fish marine food, when you buy the ocean nutrition food it can
be used on either, but I do not keep freshwater so I don't know
if they eat it.
