I know this has been said many times before, but today I installed my
96W bright kit on my 30 gallon plant tank. I can't believe the
difference....all of the plants are bubbling away like mad. An addition
like this really does prove the point about what happens when a system
is deficient in just one of the required areas. I have been trying to
grow plants for years, but never did any research about why they always
died until a month ago. At that point I decided to add CO2 since this
would be the easiest change for me since I already had a CO2 tank. The
addition of CO2 helped tremendously, (or so I thought at the time).
When I added my lighting today I couldn't believe the difference. The
entire surface of the tank is filled with O2 bubbles!!!!
Now I just gotta watch out for the pesky hair algae!!!
If I figure out a way to scan some photos, maybe I'll put a site up
showing my tank now, and then bi-weekly updates.

Prior to your installing the bright kit, did you get any bubbles from your
leaves with your co2 injection?
How difficult was your installation of the kit? Did you install it in a
standard hood or did you make a custom
light hood?. Many questions b/c I am thinking about to retrofit my full
twin 55W bulb hood with 2 55W bright kits
but I am not that handy. Never did any FL lighting work in my life and just
found out the function of a ballast in a
FL light fixture from reading this NG and at the Krib articles.
Have 2 Ultra daylight 55W tubes in my 55G with twin DIY co2 injection
bottles but my plants don't bubble.
Although, I do get a few bubbles at the top most part of the plant which is
closest to the light

Ummmm, you alreay have twin 55W compact fluorescent and want to replace
them with twin 55W compact fluorescent???? I'm confused.
Did you instead mean you currently have a twin 40W lamp fixture (2 x
40W straight T-12 size tubes) ?

Patrick, we had a prior correspondence on this NG about the my light
situation..The light reflector part being the unknown variable. I am trying
to get a feedback from people who actually installed the AHS bright kits to
their standard twin light hood.
I am not a handy person who doesn't have much tools to begin with and who
takes a whole day just to change oil in my car.
Trying to build a custom hood like yours is just impossible in my
situation. I don't like to order things and never finish the project. I did
that too many times. I just want to make sure the kits are fittable in my
present hood without much alteration.
There gotta be someone who did it in a twin 40W hood. As per AHS, the
retrofit kit is not a straight bolt on job. Hence, I need to know how much
alteration I have to do.
Btw, I changed an 81 Saab 900 turbo clutch but took me whole 2 weeks to do
it. Read the instruction manual at least billion times for 1 1/2 weeks and
1/2 week to execute it. Well, the car was moving at first try.!

My strip light measures 4 1/2" wide at the base X 3 1/2 " wide at the top and 4" tall, so it appears that the dimensions are exactly the same. It should be a snap to install the retro kit in your hood! Is the strip light removable from the hood? I had a "full hood" once and the strip was just set in the top of the hood, not molded as one piece with the hood.

Wow, same dimension !!! My full hood is actually 2 pcs. The base consists of 2 plastic hinged openings in front and 2 glass part glued to the base in the middle where the strip light part sits on top (moisture proof?).

I built the hood from 3/4 inch pine using some suggestions
that AH sent along with the light kit. Installing the
lamps was straightforward and they look real good.
Building the hood was the hardest part of the project.

Installation was done into a pre-existing 10G light strip.
Went reasonably easy and the lights look great.
Next project, make box for the 55Watt kit I bought with it.
