Hi, I have spotted a watercolour painting on ebay which I am very
curious about. It is 19thC and looks to me very much like an Edward
Lear. I wonder if anyone can confirm this for me? The seller doesn't
know who the painting is by and there is no signature. I have included
the link to the page:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Beautiful-Watercolour-of-Italian-Scene_W0QQitemZ150114380158QQihZ005QQcategoryZ20129QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

and the item number: 150114380158

If anyone can help me identify it I would be most grateful.

Mercian.

please DO NOT post links to active auctions to our group. if you are
seriously interested in starting a discussion about an item that you see on
an auction site, then please wait until the auction is over before posting
the link, preferably through a url renaming service such as:

http://tinyurl.com/

if, on the other hand, you are expecting someone on this group to verify an
artist or make any other comment on the authenticity of this painting so
that you can feel better about bidding on it, then you've come to the wrong
place. without the painting in hand it's impossible to confirm anything
about it including whether or not it is, in fact, a painting and not a
print. please remember, any posts that contain links to active auctions or
sales of any kind are considered spam, according to the rules and charter of
rec.antiques, and spammers on this group are opening themselves up to a
world of abuse.

Well no one can do that. You would have to get an expert to look at it
in real life. Maybe you should contact the seller and ask for an
inspection with your favourite expert.
