Greetings gentlemen;

Does anyone here know much about Maxfield Parrish original prints? The
print is "The Broadmoor" (hotel) 14 1/2 X 19 " plus original
frame--18"X22.5" which has a metal plaque 6" long X 1-5/8" high
which says "The Broadmoor, Colorado Springs, Colo. from a painting by
Maxfield Parrish ".

If not here, is there a more applicable newsgroup someone knows of ??

Thankin' Y'all in advance, Jerry

Dear Jerry,
Years and years ago, I used to see these things for sale in the antique
malls in the Mid West for like 15 to 25 bucks. I always meant to buy
one and never got around to it. As it happens, they went WAY up in
price, so I never did get one.
The main thing you want to consider is this, condition. Like all prints
(there may be an exception, but if so, I am not aware of it) direct
sunlight damages them; they fade. So, keep that matter in mind when you
are considering your print. LOTS of the ones I have seen are faded by
the sun.
Just an historical note, his daughter was a good minor New Mexico
painter. What was her name, Louise? Hang on a second. Gotta Google.
Yeah, Louise.
Her later works were boring abstracts but her middle period was
actually pretty good. My old Dad has a little painting of hers of the
Taos gorge that's just super.
Let's see, Woody Wilson and his daughter Carol used to carry some of
her paintings in their gallery in Santa Fe.
I see I have gotten off on a tangent.
Anyway, you should have no trouble finding info on Maxfield Parish
prints. Lots of info available. Just look. Ask your librarian, too.

And don't mess around with it. Keep it in it's original frame.

It's a souvenir sold by the hotel.
http://shop.broadmoor.com/search_results.asp
You can buy another one from them (without all the damage),
you can buy it on a mug, on a pillow, on a coaster, on a candy
tin and even on a refrigerator magnet......

I'm not sure why this is being called an "original print". Is there
something special on the back, saying that it was printed by
Parrish?

Dear Kris,

There is the inscription in lower LH corner saying Maxwell Parrish 1921
Haven't looked on the back, the cardboard is very old & flaky, didn't
want to disturb it, the cover glass has a tiny bubble in it, typical
of glass mfg. in that period..Knowing from whence it came, It has seen
little sunlight, and was probably purchased about that time.

Do you think a souvenir would have the metal placque attached ??

Thank you very much for your reply

That plaque would *especially* be attached to a souvenir OR to a
print hung in a room. It's there to advertise the hotel.

Bubbles in glass doesn't mean "old"...it just means that it's not
good glass.

Jerry, man, I don't think I'd put too much hope into this thing.
Money-wise you might as well forget it. Nothing there. It does not
exhibit the qualities for which Parrish is known.

It's pretty much nothing. Put a minimum bid of $35 on it, put in on
eBay and see what you get. Who knows, you might get a bid or two.

My opinion only, subject not as desirable as some of his others, but who
knows? I sold -I think-"Daybreak" -about the same size -for $97 several
years ago. Mine had a serious mouse chew.
Good luck,
janice
