Philco 47-1227 & 49-1609 Sam's anyone?
If I understand correctly, a Sam's for something from 1947 is now public domain. If I'm incorrect about that, kindly disregard this request... Does anyone have the Sam's Photofacts for a Philco 47-1227 and/or 49-1609 as a PDF of JPG they could provide? I'm new to this and my first restoration of a Motorola 71-A is going fairly... more »

POWER CORD REPLACEMENT QUESTION..
Hi all, I have to replace the power cord on an RCA 29K that HAS a transformer. I'll be using a bladed replacement. Does it matter to which point the larger blade of the plug is connected. Would the lager blade go to the power switch? I know in a hot chassis- non transformer set its very important, but with a set with a... more »

Good idea, I think
I just tried something that worked out great for me, and I'm wondering if anyone else has used a similar technique. Working on a GE that (like many radios of the era) needs all of the rubber-covered wire replaced. Slow and tedious to be sure. There are some wires that have started to crack but haven't crumbled yet, but unfortunately... more »

Pictures of my Log Cabin Radio
I bought this in Denver last night. Yes, it is original factory, not a kluge. I'm trying to figure out who made the chassis. It is a 4 tube TRF that uses a curtain-burner cord. Looks like the circuit style popular around 1933-35. Tube line up- as marked on the sockets is 6C6, 6C6, 43, 25Z5. I'm not sure what the knob on the back does, it's some... more »

anyone recognize a Setchell Carlson model 7B ---
I can forward photos, but basically it is a rectangular beige box, the nametag says Model 7B, 110 volts, 60 watt input, serial 548, 60 cycles, 7 watt output, and it says Setchell Carlson, Inc, St Paul Minnesota he didn't provide a tube lineup or any interior photos. If this interests you and you want, contact him per email address below.... more »

When were abrasives dropped from 78s?
I've read differing timeframes of when abrasives were left out of 78 record production (because electric pickups had become the norm). 1935, late 30s, etc. Is there any real definitive date that has ever been nailed down, even if for specific companies? Was wondering, because for the heck of it as a test, I played one side of a Victor-... more »

zenith chassis 901118
It's an am/fm reciever similar to the chassis in a model g723. I recapped it but haven't yet replaced the selenium rectifier or the filter caps. I'll get to that later. AM works great but not FM. Not sure where to start with it since I don't have the right schematics and don't know much about the fm part. Any advice appreciated.... more »

Vintage Jensen Speakers, any info?
I just bought a pair of Jensens on eBay. They have the same model cabinets that my Dad's HiFi had back in the 50s. (Big nostalgia here.) In spite of having a single non-coaxial 12 inch driver, they seem to have a good high end (at least to my 60 year old ears). I would like to find more information... more »
