If he had shown it lit in a tester it might have brought much more. Then
again, it might not look much different under test than it does just sitting
there. The visible dark ring on the target would suggest a pretty worn tube.
Terms like "useful" "visible" and "probably 60%" don't exactly inspire
confidence either.
Are you saying they had new 6T5's in quantity for $100? Sorry to be
skeptical but in my experience this tube is pretty rare to find even used,
much less new.

That makes more sense. thanks for the clarification. The tube guys here in
Chicago area also have them on the list, but I think you'd need to be an
"insider" to actually get one. My recollection is that the occasional NOS
ones on ebay bring at least $200.

Thanks, but too rich for my blood. My Zenith 12S267 that I bought at a
fleamarket had a 6T5 in it. I had no hope for the tube, given its reputation
for dying quickly. But for some reason the tube was almost as good as new.
Of course the power transformer was shot, but that's another story. I keep
the tube safely tucked away in the cabinet in the hopes that the tube can
survive beyond me. Meanwhile a 6E5 is fine. Only an avid radio collector
would know it isn't the original. And of course, the 6U5 was probably sold
by most radio repairmen as the "upgrade" very early on.
Seller is now NARU. ???
