I have received help and support from many on this
group and at least interesting discussion and brain
cudgeling. Thank you all and Happy Thanksgiving to those in
the USA who celebrate this holliday. To others, join us and
give thanks for all that's good in your lives and for your
families. This is an unusual holliday because it has no
political or religious basis, just a celebration of our
survival in a difficult world.

I second richard's greetings, and I would extend it to the international
folks who don't celebrate this holiday - I wish you happiness also, and I
thank you for your participation and your help in antixenophbianism, may it
continue to be so. And for all of you in the midwest/east/northern
Europe - it's "freezing" here in LA - it's below 70F right now. Brrrrrr

It's supposed to drop to 33 in Ocala tonight, and my furnace is shot.

It was actually about 82F here today. but very dry.
Supposed to be ten degrees cooler tomorrow.
Please remember the following about left-overs:
Food eaten standing up has no calories.
Food eaten with the refrigerator door open has no calories.
Food eaten with your hands has no calories.

It dropped to 34, but was still 72 degrees in my bedroom without the
furnace. It's in the mid 60s right now, and 81 in my room.

I am going to use space heaters this winter. The heat strips & heat
pump cost too much to run, full time.

The heat pump should be more efficient and therefore cheaper to run than
resistance elements.

Some one could be fusing with the set point behind your back and kicking on
the electric resistive secondary.

Do your electric resistance secondary get kicked on often? That happens if
some one pushes the thermostat over 2 deg past the primary kick on point.

I put a self locking relay DPDT to over ride the electric secondary on my
heat pump system in VA. You push up the temp over 2 degrees then push a
button to engage a electrically self locking relay. The relay gets its
power through a momentary SPST button, from the secondary mercury bubble.

The second pole opens the circuit to the high current relays in the furnace.
When the temp rises from the compressor and the secondary mercury tilts back
the power is removed to the self locking relay.

You need to 1/2 wave rectify the AC and filter it with an electrolytic or
the relay will buzz. Easy to make.

A Belated Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!

I can heat selected rooms with the electric heaters. The heat pump is
whole house and can't be confined to a small room or two. I also found a
damaged 100 A main breaker & busbar in the box feeding the heat pump,
which forced me to use a smaller 50 A breaker in a couple spare slots.
Until the box is replaced & inspected i don't have the required current
to use the heat pump without disabling the heat strips.

I'm the only one here.

I haven't used the system in over five years. I only moved from a one
bedroom cottage to the main house last December when I got sick and
couldn't sleep in the hospital bed. There were three empty bedrooms in
the main house, so I grabbed a few clothes and moved. the last time it
was used was when my dad & stepmom lived here for about eight months
while their new home was built. I wasn't able to deal with all the
steps, for about seven years.

For some reason I can not see my original post to this thread.......
Looks like you got it under control.

I agree...Room by room zones are far more efficient than a whole house.

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and keep warm.

Thanks. You too.

BTW, another advantage is that if it warms up too much during the day,
I can dump the heat into the hallway or another bedroom, without wasting
it. :)

I've noticed some usenet servers acting strange. Some messages
posted Friday that already had replies didn't show up till today.
