I am offering this wonderful American Folk Painting of MISS ARIETTA
STEELEY who was married to the REVEREND MOSES FLOYD. Her father was
Henry Steeley and he had two farms in Mifflin County. Arietta was born
in 1800. She was 18 when the portrait was painted. The only other
information that I have is that on the other side of the family, there
were Farquhars. Of course this is from Pennsylvania. There is a label
that has the name J.J. Gillespie, Pittsburgh PA on the rear. It may have
been framed at a later date. This was purchased from a family member.
There are areas that need restoration. There is some paint loss and
someone touched it up a bit. It measures 21 inches by 27 inches and is
32 inches by 38 inches including the frame. The frame is exquisite.
These early folk art portraits are quite rare and this is an exciting
find. I also have part of the gold earring that she is wearning in the
portrait and will include this in the sale, a rare and interesting
feature. It measures 1 7/8 inches in length. Buyer pays shipping and
insurance. Florida buyer pays 7% sales tax. Mastercard and Visa are
accepted. Personal and Cashier Checks are held 12 days to clear as are
Money Orders other than US Postal. A Guaranteed Quality Antique.
