This magnificent work of art is from the estate of antique
dealer/collector extraordinaire, Chet Cramer. "Mr. Chet", as he was
known to many, had a varied and interesting career. Part of which was
as the opening act for Liberace, world famous pianist. As a
singer/performer with Liberace, he traveled extensively to Europe and
beyond. On one such trip, Mr. Chet discovered this painting on a
monastery wall. The building was to be demolished, so Mr. Chet removed
this painting from the wall with a razor blade. Unfortunately, Mr. Chet
was unable to save it all. The section offered here is an allegorical
composition of Christ in an interior. It is oil on canvas of exquisite
detail, laid down on wood. No visible signature. Approx. 60" x 40".
Unframed, fitted with overlaid liner. Pre-Raphaelite or Continental
School, probably 3rd or 4th Quarter of 19th Century.
