This book titled, Chinese Art, by Leigh Ashton and Basil Gray is in
excellent condition. It is published by The Beechhurst Press, New York,
First American Edition, Copyright 1953. The book is 366 pages and is a
comprehensive book on Chinese Art from the early times (Shang-Yin, 1766-1122
BC) through all the Chinese Dynasties and Periods (Han, Chin, Tang, Liao,
Sung, Yuan, Ming, and up to the Ching Hsuan Tung Dynasty (1909-1912 AD). The
book is entirely composed of photographs of various Chinese Art pieces that
are dated, with measurements, the museum it is housed in, and brief
description of the item. All photographs are black and white. Each Dynasty
section of the book has a detailed description of the various art forms for
that particular period. The photographs include period ceramics, figurines,
vases, hanging silk pictures/paintings/scrolls, silk tissues, jars and
bowls, and more. The book begins with a chronology of the Chines Dynasties
and periods. This is a great reference Chinese Art Pieces. The book measures
6 ½ inches x 10 inches and is in excellent condition. There are no loose or
missing pages, no tears, stains, or water marks. The spine is still nice and
solid.
