Dehradoon - Nine watch towers equipped with infrared and
thermal cameras have started operating on the southern
boundary of the Corbett National Park which sustains a
population of 214 tigers, according to the National Tiger
Census report released by the National Tiger Conservation
Authority in 2011.
The park officials are confident that this development
will act as a deterrent to poaching and trespassing as
the cameras now cover an area of 400 sq km. Depending on
the success of this facility, the NTCA could facilitate
similar camera-equipped watch towers in other tiger
reserves of the nation.
The staff shortage in the Forest Department is a factor
which affects wildlife security across the State. The
southern boundary of Corbett is highly sensitive area as
it connects with UP border and is frequently used by
poachers and timber smugglers to trespass into the
national park.

and "gmail.com") to make it appear as if the posts are
from "fan...@aol.com", who has been a regular poster for
