Immediately after saying that "It may be necessary to invade Russia..." she
appeared to have the "deer-in-the-headlights" look and attempted to
"restate" her comments with an ex post facto statement of "if they were
members of NATO then we would have had to GO WAR WITH RUSSIA."

Clearly, Palin views the "War on Terror" as a holy war -- a "task from God" as she phrased it -- to eradicate "radical Muslim beliefs." She seems to hint that this God-given task would obviously include victory for America, at whatever cost, in whatever area of the world. I suspect the McCain campaign will spend the next seven weeks trying to tone down her rhetoric, but it may be difficult, as her position seems to lack any nuance whatsoever.
On the other hand, the Obama campaign is still imploding. His former messianic message is in shambles, and he has been reduced to a campaign that is derivative of the McCain-Palin campaign.
It seems that Obama lost a key ingredient of the messiah formula -- that of being "humble" -- and a significant portion of his support is washing its hands of him for this reason. It is hard for me to see this segment of his support returning. I believe he needs to attempt immediately to convert to a Clinton-style Dependency BA model, if possible, and trust the falling economy to help him out in November.
