Subject: Russians Gain "Respect" by Invasion
Bush's decision to send American military to Georgia is needed, he
says, "to show to Russia
that we can come to the aid of a European ally, and that we can do it
at will, whenever
and wherever we want."  SO THERE!  We're no wimps!!  We're MEN.

Russia, too, is showing there're no wimps:  One officer who invaded
said:  "When Putin came,
everything changed.  We got some of our old strength back.  People
started to respect us again."
RESPECT.  Not territory.  Respect.

That's still what war is about: fears of loss of masculinity.  Read
Stephen Ducat's book "The Wimp Factor."

In accordance with Lloyd's interpretation:

        >>"There's no room for debate on this matter," said Mr Bush. "The international community is clear that South Ossetia and Abkhazia are part of Georgia and the US fully recognises this reality."
Meanwhile, disturbing reports of abuse of ethnic Georgians in captured parts of the disputed region emerged. A group of captive soldiers were paraded in the streets of the South Ossetian capital, Tskinvali, and the bodies of at least 40 dead troops rotted in the sun.
Teams of ethnic Georgians, some under armed guard, were forced to clean the streets. It was the first apparent evidence of humiliation or abuse of Georgians in the Russian-controlled breakaway republic.<<
