As a new member coming in, I would like to make a few comments from an
"outside perspective". I have started/been involved in many a clubs
in the past from flying fields, Ice Hockey Officials to Director of
the H.O.G. Club. I understand the diversity in the nature of numbers
and the complexity of the standard rule for clubs whichs seems to be
20% of the members do 100% of the work. With that being said, it's
simple really, the club is a business and should run as such to
include a business plan and operating budget. Also, certain things
should be planned in advanced for the general population of the
membership while other items will just remain to be spontanious. That
is why there is a monthly meeting, for those that want to be a part of
either of those should attend the meetings. The complexity of that is
"life"......it's busy and doesn't always allow us to do this so I feel
some form of alternative means for voting on the "big ticket" items
should be provided. But this should not be taken advantage of and
clear criteria should be developed for this type of system if the club
agrees to do this measure.
Otherwise, just be a part of your group instead of going to the field
and using vulgar language and stirring discontent all day!!! I'm not
saying there isn't legitimacy to the recent issues at hand, I am just
saying there are much better ways to handle it and being a part of the
solution is much better than being a part of the problem. Let me just
be clear here......I have not been a regular attender to the meeting
because of evening conflicts which I am still working out, on the same
hand because of that I am also not voicing my opinions (until now). If
you want something different, then spend the time and energy to make
the difference. At least at the end of the day you can walk away
knowing that you did your part even if it didn't change anything.
Democracy folks, we are never going to please everyone all of the
time.....consider it a good day if you can please majority of the
people most of the time.
The club belongs to all of us, so if you decide you don't like
something, then make a constructive approach at letting the others
know versus the opposite. The fees are minimal compared to many clubs
out there that offer less.
Personally for me (just 1 persons opinion) I enjoyed working the "Fly
for Tots" event, and I thoroughly enjoy giving back in any area that I
am able to. I am also re-arranging my schedule to be more a part of
the internal workings of the club and attend the meetings so if I have
an opinion about something that will be my opportunity to toss it out
there. This is a great club, beautiful field and some great guys
behind the scenes working away without ever asking for any
recognition. THANK YOU TO ALL FOR WHAT YOU HAVE DONE!!!
As far as I can see, this club allows you to be a major part or just
come up and fly without expectations.......it doesn't get any better
than that!!!! But if you decide to be a part of "the major" stuff, do
it constructively, thoughtfully and without spreading discontent.
Thanks for listening and allowing me to voice my opinioin in a
productive way.........Greg
