i was just looking at cheap controls and Anvilus for the electronic switches, but didn't see either of them carrying them.  where else should i go for them? I know i need one for the marker's trigger and the other to operate the turret's rotation.

from what i am seeing in those switches they offer (including servo city, hobby lobby didn't seem to have much of anything) everything i have been seeing is for switching something on, then switching it back off. i am looking for something momentary.

www.teamdelta.com has what you are looking for. $30-$40 for most of
the switches but they'll do the job.

but they still seem to switch things on, and then switch things off were i just need momentary

maybe i should ask this way, how do you operate your E-triggers and turret rotations?

I know some use car door looks selnoids to smack off of the gun's trigger, but what are you using to activate the door lock? is this just used for manual triggers or E-triggers as well?

for turret rotation i know i can set up a servo to switch 2 cherry switches (one to either side of it) but was hoping to find a 2 way (?) momentary electronic switch that i would just wire up to relays to handle the current.

(I know i could do something similar for the door lock as well).

it's just that i thought there were momentary electronic switches out there that i could use instead.

so i'll ask this to everyone: what do you use?

I agree with Clark, I've been using Team Delta switches for years. Hence
the earlier link to Robot Marketplace.

I have used them in Battlebots to fire pneumatics, and currently use one
to fire an airsoft gun in my Mech Warfare robot. If you have a receiver
with a PWM output, it will work just fine as a momentary switch, the
operating threshold for the switch is adjustable. They don't latch on,
just turn on at a given PWM level and turn off when above or below that
setting, depending on configuration.

don't know about this PWM output, but do know these r/c units are a few years old (say 10 years+).

now would my getting just new receivers do (for having this PWM) or would it need to be a hole new r/c unit (if that's the case, i'm going have to pass on that for right now)

Since I haven't finished my tank, and am just using the switches in robotic applications, I'll defer to the group.

I was planning on simply using a Team Delta switch to replace the switch on the marker, or operate a door lock. They don't use the power from the PWM signal to power the gun, it's isolated. For turret rotation, I will probably use a dual ended Team Delta switch which allows for limit switches in the configuration, and fwd/reverse operation.

Been doing robots for 11 years, but the tank is still only about half built., so my hands on experience with an actual tank is nil.

Chris.. PWM is just the standard output that an R/C receiver sends to
the servos.. Older is good...

okay.

but how are they being used as non-latching/momentary switches then?

Without going into how PWM modulation works, say you are using one of the joysticks or a momentary switch on your radio to fire the gun. If the delta switch is set to operate at 60%, when the stick has moved to that point (or beyond) the switch will turn on, and when the stick has moved back to less than 60%, it will turn off. With a momentary switch on the radio (mine has one for snap roll) configure the radio to output full servo movement when switched, will have the same effect.

For turret movement, the dual ended switch can be set up to operate the same as the joystick.

Hope I'm not confusing you more..

i can't find the site now, but one of the ones i was looking at for these switches was saying something about having 4 adjustable settings, but it sounded like it was referring as to where your stick was and how far over it would need to be to activate the switch

this is one of the switches i was looking at for the turret's rotation http://www.robotmarketplace.com/products/0-TD-RCE220.html

or even

but they sound like they are latching switches

now this one seems to be latching (loading up the data sheet right now) or it would even be ideal to use for the marker

or even this one

but they too seem to be latching as well as this one

still waiting on the pdf data sheet for the one to load up to see if is has anything for momentary usage.

okay...... finally loaded up and ...... i still have no clue other than that this unit can be used by 4 different interfaces (did i get that right) and that the relay is either on or off until switched.

but i didn't see anything that made it sound like it was only momentary

okay, so as long as i hold a stick over the gun should continue to fire, or just the single shot until i release the stick and let it rest circuit and then move the stick again?

(i wish they would say that the switch is only active as long as the stick is held over, that would make things so much easier to understand)

Any of the RCExxx switches are great. They are the Team Delta switch. The configuration does let you set where they turn on and off, but as i mentioned, they will stay turned on ONLY as long as the stick is held that way. Once the stick returns to normal or moves below the turn-on point, it will turn off.

I've never used the Battleswitch, but have heard good things about them.

Off topic here on my part but I looked at the Mech Warfare sites and they look cool but way over my ability to build (right JP?)......

Gary,
Is there a site for schedules ?

Kurt,

Depends on where you are located.

June 23-24 there will be some at the Maker Faire in Kansas City, Mo.
April 20-21-22 Robogames, San Mateo, CA... This is the largest event..
Shep-robo.. sometime this summer at Shepherd Univ in Shepherdstown, West
Virginia

The most information is found in the forum at Trossen Robotics.
http://forums.trossenrobotics.com/forum.php

It's a blast, this is what diverted me from my tank building..

My turret rotation uses a speed controller to control it.  The trigger on my marker is simply a micro servo that actuates a micro NO (normally off) toggle switch which in turn applies power to the door lock actuator.  Works good.

Oh, and I replaced the toggle switch on my Spektrum DX6 radio with a momentary push button switch.

They MechWarfare bots are sort of a different animal to build. There's more
complexity than a tank, but they don't need to be as rugged. Gary is THE MAN
for MechWarfare.

I've been working on a quadruped (four legs) for a while. I want to use the
same basic architecture for the MechWarfare bot as my next tank. There will
be a PICO-ITX to handle communication and stream video over WiFi. There's
also an Arduino board to handle the gaits (Mechwfare bots need to walk) and
general I/O. I've made good progress but I still have more to do. I have the
software about 70% done, including multi-camera hi-def video. The hardware
has been bread-boarded but I still need to have boards built. I'm currently
working on the gaits to make the thing walk better.

Gary, thanks for clearing that all up for me (now to see if they take PP or not)!

okay, now that's one less thing to worry about and as soon as i get some more things cleared off my IOU sheet, i'll be ordering some switches!!!
