I thought it might be time to jump into DLG—my last javelin launch, I managed to mess up my rotator cuff after a day of enthusiastic tossing!
I bought a Libelle, which seemed to be a nice starter. It’s foam surfaces with foam and glass pod and boom. The plane was $120, servos $10 each (I’m too cheap for digital at this stage). It’s about 7 oz (about 200 g) 1.2 m span. www.dream-flight.com
The build was about three hours. I balanced it, then went to the school playground to get it trimmed. There’s more to the launch technique than I thought! A got a dozen decent flights. I had one slightly hard landing and the wing split at the dihedral brace. I ordered another wing from Dream Flight along with a note that I was surprised that it was so delicate. They wrote back immediately and said it was probably a defective brace, and they credited my card. Good customer service.
With the new and improved wing and practice, I’m getting much better launches. Pretty impressed with it. I just checked their website and they’re out of stock until fall.
