in what way unintentional?
who has not noticed, as far back as 1960,
that people who get lots of fresh air, exercise and good food
age slower and better thanpeople who hang out n bars and drink amd smoke cigarettes?
i started running in 1964 with the idea of extending myusable life into my 70s and boy
has that paid off.

Same coverage from a slightly different angle here: http://www.bbc.com/news/health-43308729.

As one of my fellow retiree cyclists said on reading it: "One bloke reckons he has the body fat of a 19 year-old. I can beat that - I have the body fat of four 19 year-olds."

I'm happy to state my at-rest pulse is 42, and my BP the same as when I was 19

My wife, also a cyclist and in her 60s, arranged health checks for all her staff at work a few years ago. When the time came for her to have the checkup, they asked her if she was using beta blockers, as her resting pulse rate was 48.

" I do notice that I am considerably grumpier if I can't cycle every day."

When I was working, if I came home in a grumpy mood, my wife often suggested I get on my bike & get outside, and return when my mood improved.  An hour on the bike is better than an hour of cocktails.

how is it unintentional? Maybe folks would cycle for fun even if it wasn't good for us

That's what I meant.  I cycle because it's fun.  It is amazing to me the extent of the health benefits that can result from it :)

talking about food is fine, but much more important is what happens to our metabolism and circulation when we ride regularly.
