I'll start things off with my Quickbeam relaxing on the Delaware River here in Philly behind a casino toting a slice of Lorenzo's. I saw a periwinkle Platypus parked outside the Cherry St. Pier on the way which was a nice surprise.

Keeping with Jamie's river theme, I did an urban route earlier today along the French Broad with a climb up into the neighborhoods overlooking the central city. Temps were in the low 80s but with a merciful breeze.  First pic is looking across the river to the Biltmore Estate.

Like most summers, I can't believe how quickly this one is slipping by!

No river theme to continue here! Our creeks are but a trickle in the dry forests of Southern Oregon. I finally bit the bullet and sold my twitchy Ritchey Breakaway Cross after I snagged a 58cm sage green '18 Sam Hillborne on the facebook trade group and transferred many of the parts over. Loyal Samwise Gamgee might get his own build thread one of these days when I'm feeling cute.

From my house I can ride about 630' straight up in 2.5 miles. A solid end to a day of caring for my kiddos without much personal time. Views of town and the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument before heading straight back down. The elevation profile for just about every ride around here looks like an upside-down V.

Please do! I really can’t keep buying more Sams because I like the color, so I’m going to have to live vicariously through others.

I went for an almost-100-mile loop around my favorite roads today, and I thought it would be fun to play "Name That Tune". I never wear headphones while riding, but there is always music playing in my head.

Crossed the Milwaukee River a few times but never at a photogenic spot, so I missed the obvious “Take Me To The River."  I also missed an opportunity to use The Suburbs, "I Like Cows". The farm where I planned to take that photo appears to have sold off their herd and is in the process of razing their barn.

Well, that was a fail. Google deleted all but one of my photos. And it won't let me compose a post on the website with all the photos in it. Sorry!

One ride so far this month, on the 2nd, but it was a good all-day ride in the woods (and boroughs outside town) on the Bombadil. It wasn't too hot, but the past two days have been hot and smokey. We've been extremely lucky here in the northern PNW this year, no significant heatwaves and today is the first time we've had hazardous AQI this year. I'm counting the days until the "safety" of autumn.

On Friday I received a new frame set which I've been eagerly awaiting since spring 2025, it's not a Riv, but it shares a whole lot in common with Rivs: timeless bikes designed by a stubborn but brilliant person who has a crystal clear idea of what a bike should be and doesn't care about what's trendy. It's a Stooge Rambler. Last night I took it for its inaugural ride and ended up participating in Bike Rave, a massive group ride with loud music and bikes decked out in lights. Today I had the polar opposite experience, going deep in the valley where humans are few and far between:

Hey Charlie,
Yes, I'm 6'4" and ride a 2TT 62cm Appaloosa. The stem is the Rivendell 90/190 in 110mm length, the bars are Crust KT bars. I have the stem pretty low because the bars have 50mm (I think) of rise and I like a semi-aggressive position, or at least not straight upright. I have also used Billie and Bullmoose bars, and liked both, but the KT bars are perfect for my riding (mixed terrain). These bars work for general riding, touring and riding some trails. Hope this helps!

Brief afternoon shakedown ride with my recently reconfigured Clem… now sporting ultra wide drops I’ve held in reserve along with Tektro long pull drop levers wrapped in a mix of bar tape remnants.  Hadn’t really planned to rebuild the Clem but after a series of unexpected events I found myself amid a game of musical parts among friends and family bikes.  After scavenging it’s bars, shifters, and grips to accommodate other needs I found my Clem in need of a new look.  Currently running it as a single speed only until I make a final call on the bars so I could cable up some shifting bits.

Takashi: What a special looking bike. And your photos - that third one makes me really, really want to ride there! The framing, light and mood is 👌.

Brian: That's certainly the most unique Clem I've ever seen! Looks fun.

My contribution is a photo of my Roadini at a place I often stop and drink coffee at on the way to work. This time I brought some panettone to enjoy with my coffee. What a treat. My Roadini is sporting my first ever attempt at bar wrap. The shellac arrived today - wish me luck!

Robert and Dan,
Thank you! If you have chance to visit Japan with your bike, I'd suggest you to visit Nagano. Just be sure to plan carefully so as to avoid busy highways.

Keeping with Brian Ferry's river theme (that's a very cool photo Brian), as well as the first two posts of this therad, here are a few photos from yesterday's ride.
A 40-minute ride takes me to Atera River, a river becoming increasingly famous in recent years for its blue-green water.

Ha, yes! That was me. The Evasion was a catch-and-release purchase to tide me over until this Stooge arrived. The purple-hubbed Stridsland is owned by Matias of Stridsland himself!  I'm actually receiving a titanium Beachcomber on the incoming batch, too - a bit of an absurd couple months in bike spending, but it'll all make sense in the end I promise!

Ha! Ti Beachcomber hot dawg! Spend it if ya got it I guess! They look so small with the handlebars well below the saddle. I actually thought they were using 24" wheels. I now see that they will take up to a 27.5x2.6 tire. I had no idea Stridsland was a Canadian living in Denmark. I was a bit confused watching the vid, assuming he was filming it but heard no accent.
