So, us So Cal Riv Riders have decided to suspend our regular monthly
rides this month so some of us could participate in the Rough Riders
Santa Monica Mountains odyssey:

There should be some Rivs there... I'll have my Rawland. The ride
seems to be on the knobbie side of "all-rounder."

This is gonna' be a good one.  A touch on the cool-side (mid 50's morning to 60's high, brrrrrr!!!!) but doesn't look any precipitation!  If anyone is on the fence, you just gotta' do it!

The weather out here in Santa Monica has been stellar the past few
days. A little crisp, maybe, but clear skies as far as the eye can see
-- and that's something you can't always say about the LA basin.

I got my bike juiced up and ready to go. See y'all in the morning.

We had ten riders today for a 45 mile Rough Riding epic with 6100 feet
of elevation gain, spread out over seven hours. It was an awesome day,
but none of you posters here were there. What happened?

Photos, route, report, to be posted soon.

Thanks Chris,
I'm still working my way back up to strength without hurting the knee. I'm hoping to get out there with you one of these weeks. I did think about going today but ended up doing a flat 25-miler. Rough rides on "road bikes" are my favorites.

This isn't on the epic level of Rough Rider rides, but a good potential So Cal RBW Ride one of these months would be a mixed surface ride ending with a challenging dirt climb on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Warning though: getting to the ride is about a 20-minute drive from the main freeways, and there is no easy way to get to the ride by public transit

We got there about 15 minutes too late... :-(  Still had a great time, but bummed we couldn't meet up.  Will have to get some phone #'s next time...

Wonderful day nonetheless:  http://www.flickr.com/photos/cyclotourist/sets/72157622726565019/

Jim, We have a tentative request in for Chino Hills State Park, riding out of Yorba Linda in December.  Aiming for the 13th which has tentatively been ok'ed by a couple people so far...

Palos Verdes could work out fine for a '10 ride, work up a route and throw it into the mix.  We try to do more coastal rides in the warm months, but it appears we will never have winter again, so it's all warm months now!

Sorry we missed you, Chris! We thought we could head you guys off at
the pass at the trail head, but alas, we settled into a nice ride.

Great photos, guys! That was a fun ride, crowned appropriately with a
couple of monster deli sandwiches and refreshing Hangar 24 -- loved
that stuff.

I look forward to December's ride.

A really fun ride, especially with some knobbies!!!

The amount of walkers/hikers compared to last time was amazing.  We had to be pretty careful dodging them (and their off-leash dogs) going up and coming back down especially.  Great to see the trails getting used!
