Canti-Rom

FWIW: I am running Marathon 35s on Mavic 622x19 rims with SKS fenders
just fine on my 59 cm Canti-Romulus. All in preparation for packed
gravel rail-trails riding in Virginia including the Virginia Creeper
and New River in a few weeks. Rode same across the Southern Tier and
the Pacific Coast(Seattle to Montara), both trips fully loaded.
Extremely versatile bike.

FWIW, I've ridden the whole of the Creeper on my Ram, in two parts...
From Abingdon to Damascus and back by myself, then from Damascus to
Whitetop and back a few weeks later w/ my son. A few weeks from now
should be fine weather, the last of this heat will be gone; but you'll
be too early for the colors (but, you won't have the crowds w/o the
colors, either)...

Cross levers really help on the descent from

Whiite top....that is if  your're running drop bars of course.

3 of my metrics this year have been the creeper trail on my Sam....35 Pasela TGs and fendered.

That's usually my longest ride(s) of the year...what is it like 67-68 miles or so from Abingdon to WT and back? So that's a bit over 100K . I try to do 5 or 6  solo metrics a year. Couldn't ask for a better machine(Sam Hill)  for that trail...IMHO.

Hope to see you up there some time.....I'll be the struggling old guy on the Sam Hillborne...

Oops.

Guess the original topic was to do with trail riding with Ram/ Roms.

I'm sure they  are both excellant choices for the creeper.

I have a Rambouillet....never had it off road to speak of...but I wouldn't be the least bit leary of it for

"sane" off road use.
