bike transportation to Rocky Mountain 1200K

Hi,

I'm looking for some advice.

I haven't flown to a ride before and am trying to decide the best way
to get my bike to Kamloops, BC (from Austin, TX) for the Rocky
Mountain 1200K in July. I figure the two basic choices are to take it
on the plane and rental car with me (I'm flying into Vancouver and
then driving to Kamloops) or else ship it. There are several bike
shops in Kamloops that would probably be willing to receive and
assemble the bike, but my schedule has me arriving late Saturday and
starting the ride Sunday night, and it doesn't look like any bike
shops will be open on Sunday.

Recommendations?

Even though it is a pain, I'd travel with the bike since you are crossing an international border.  Who knows how long it will take to get through customs if you ship it.

I'd ship it. UPS, and probably FDX as well, has expedited customs agreements. I would check with UPS first on the cost. What they charged to Paris was prohibitive. I have a feeling that it's fairly reasonable to Canada - at least when you consider what the airlines charge and the up charge for a larger rental car required to hold a bike case.

quote. This is what they do, get your bike to an event. Send it to
your hotel to arrive a good week before you do, just to allow for
potential customs delays.
