Sorry - I forwarded this to the randon list by mistake, but then once you saw the title: "SENT IN ERROR - Please Ignore" you probably HAD to read it. :-)

It will probably generate more discussion on the list than the one on machine washing wool jerseys.

Bill

Clever ploy to get us to read your ride posting, and quite the tease to those of us stuck stateside in the cold of late Fall. Hope everyone has a safe ride.

Bill's oh so brief post possibly deserves a short explanation!

The second Sydney to Melbourne 1200 starts under the
coathanger on Sydney Harbour on Sunday 29 November and
successful participants must finish at the Audax Victoria
end of year bash at Albert Park Lake in Melbourne 90 hros later.

I believe there are about 60 entrants, including several
international visitors.

Audax Australia has a web page with information about the
ride at
http://audax.org.au/public/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=344&Itemid=347
This new route traverses some of our high country (which
many of you would regard as hills) and logs up about 9000m
vertically, as well as the horizontal 1200 km. In the parts
of eastern Australia we will transit the weather can range
from 40C to snow at this time of year. I'm hoping for a
happy medium between the two!

For those of you who want to watch the progress of friends I
am sure there will be updates posted here or on the web site.

Me? Anxious & eager!

Peter

Peter,

Good luck with your upcoming SM1200 ... Bill Olsen is one of my local riders
and if I'm not mistaken, he will be going for his 6th +1200k randonnee this
year.

The Audax Austrailia website is very nice and that graphic image at the top
of the page is quite attactive... but that cyclist appears to be going up a
hill with a 25% gradient -- hope there aren't too many like that on the
SM1200 course!

I look forward to doffing my metaphorical hat to him when he arrives at
the Corryong controle.

We've been honoured to have several overseas entrants including one from
France which, I think, is a first for an Australian 1200. We must do
something right as some of those OS entrants are return visitors.

It is our intention to provide comprehensive, almost up-to-the-minute
web coverage of the event with photos, text and, perhaps, sound bites.
The URL will be published on this and other lists nearer the time.

The second day will be lumpy but we've managed to skirt most of the 25%
grades.
