Spam is very rare on the randon mailing list. Occasionally, the email account of one of the 1300+ members is compromised, and a spam/spyware/virus message is sent to the list, most likely without the member being aware of it. The randon moderators enable moderation of all further messages coming from the members that have a compromised email account, and the moderation setting is kept until we see a legitimate message that convinces us that the account is no longer compromised.

We had two such messages in the past few hours. As a precautionary measure, I have turned on moderation temporarily for ALL randon messages. The moderators will review the messages and approve anything that is not spam. This will cause a delay in posting of new messages, possibly as much as a few hours, depending on when the moderators are able to get to the messages in the queue.

I apologize for the inconvenience. If there are no more spam messages sent to the list, I will remove the moderation after 24 hours. We will try to keep the disruption to a minimum.

We did not receive any further spam messages. I changed the list settings back, so that new messages don't require moderation. The accounts that sent the offending messages will remain moderated, for the time being.
