ok, important info - 603 is directv standard def; they split time with hi-def 604. I had to upgrade my package $5 to get Versus; if you already have hi-def it comes in as part of the deal; otherwise you only get 603.

No penalty for cancelling  Versus after one month

Hey Peter-

Even though you have Versus HD- it doesn't mean they'll air it in HD.
They love to show Professional Bull Riding in all its 1080i glory but
the minute a bike is on the air it drops to SD. Every classic this
year was SD, followed by Extreme Martial Arts in HD.

Besides- who REALLY wants to see Bob Roll in HD? (That's a joke, Bob.
I know you're lurking- a closet randonneur like your pal Andy
Hampsten.)

Hoping I'm wrong about le Tour in HD- Branson

It all depends on the French Feed. One set of cameras feeds the video to
the world. What is the current European Standard? Is it compatible with the
USA?

Le Tour was produced in HD for the first time last year by Canal 2 &
Canal 3. Versus just didn't step up to work in HD last year and their
site doesn't indicate they're going to this year. (Versus continued to
show all of the ASO-owned Classics last spring in HD.)

Your question about HD: are French/US flavors compatible? The short
answer is no, but high-end transcoders used by networks and television
stations around the world make it a non-issue. Versus could air Le
Tour in HD if they wanted to make the investment in time and
equipment. But they're owned by Comcast so no surprise they do not.
