Hello! Thanks, Rancho Gordo, for doing these bean trials. My beans have been in the ground almost two months, now, and I thought I’d give a report on how I planted them and how they’re doing.
I'm in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. I planted my beans along a fence in my backyard on May 28. The fence runs North-South, so I guess the beans are facing East. They get pretty full sun for most of the day. And it's been raining a lot in Atlanta since I planted them (or at least it feels like it has been).
Here's how I planted them:
I dug up grapefruit-sized holes about three feet apart right near the base of the fence and did this for each hole:
I try to water them most days when there's not a decent rain. I’m not sure how much water I give them; I use a hose with a multi-setting nozzle, put it on the shower setting, hold the nozzle to the ground where the bean plants are coming out, and spray for maybe like 20 seconds, or I see water rivulets running downhill from the bean plants.
I put all my the 2017 Bean Trial photos I’ve taken so far into a Google Photos album. My plan is to continue updating the album whenever I take new photos of the bean plants. Here’s the link to the album (I think anyone with the link can see the photos and any updates I make to the album in the future): https://photos.app.goo.gl/RiAPzr1g67rsfgO53
And here's the most recent photo in the album; I took it today (July 20, 2017). From left to right, the plants are: (1) Good Mother Stallard, (2) Lila, (3) Eye of the Goat, (4) San Franciscano, and (5) Ayocote Amarillo.
