Welcome to the Raleigh Scottish Fiddle Club.
We are a community based group that gets together to share some Scottish Fiddle music. We welcome beginners to Scottish Fiddling. All instruments are welcome. A typical monthly meeting will follow a format of learning a tune by ear, take a short break, then read through some predetermined music, slowly at first, and gradually adding tempo. An open jam of Scottish tunes can follow. Our goal is to build a common repertoire of tunes that we can share.
We will meet on Sundays at 3:00 and go until 6 or 6:30 The dates are: September 7th October 12th November 9th December 12th
e-mail raleighscots@gmail.com for directions or more information * The above picture is titled "A Highland Wedding at Blair Atholl". It features Niel Gow playing the fiddle. The cellist is his brother Donald. According to the Dunkeld Cathedral website, Donald's sensitive accompaniment inspired Niel to play his best. There is a lot going on in this painting. Notice that the piper, in the middle left of the picture is the only person having a drink...I wonder how accurate this representation is?
